Real Madrid have rubbish fans? Discuss.

Not for now though as we are shutting this page down. We'll see you tomorrow as we see if Chelsea can see off PSG.

William O'Sullivan: Brilliant display from Schalke. A typical never-say-die attitude from a German team.

Bobby Hanlon: That was proof that money means nothing, when you have a team that works together and fights for the club and fans. So unlucky, Schalke.

Stephen Blakeman: Your team progresses to the next round of the competition and the fans are waving white hankies? Great side, Madrid. Rubbish supporters.

Real midfielder Luka Modric: "Getting through to the next round is very important for us, sometimes you have to suffer and this will make us stronger.

"We have to get back to playing the way we were at the start of the season, we have a lot of quality and I think that we're going to see a much better Real Madrid in the next game."

Max Baggins-Craig: Great game. End-to-end stuff at it's best. Glad someone could give Real a scare. Schalke deserved it on the night, I must say.

Mandeep Karki: Madrid need De Gea more than anything else in the whole world.

I, Rob: As bad as they look just now, I'm sure Parma would love a ''crisis'' like Real's...

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: "Of course we are happy about our game today, but we could have achieved more. We conceded too easily and we should have taken our lead into the break. They didn't feel comfortable at all."

Six minutes of added time come to an end, as does this scrappy fixture.

An incredible goalmouth scramble following a Garath McCleary corner at the death came to naught, thanks to a save from brave keeper David Stockdale. Reading halt a run of three league defeats in a row. Reading 2-1 Brighton, with the Seagulls still just nine points clear of the drop zone.

    Spanish La Liga

El Clasico looms on the horizon like a beautiful, powerful beast. It is now less than two weeks until Real face off against Barcelona. On current form you'd have to be backing the boys from the Nou Camp.

That game will be featured heavily on this website. Of course.

No side has retained the Champions League in its present, modern format. Can Real Madrid do it? Not if they play like that they won't.

  9. Player reactionpublished at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes: "We played a great game. We were very brave and were not overawed by a world-class team like Real Madrid. Congratulations to my team, we deserved more today."

The Schalke fans are still in the stadium, still making noise! Top effort.

Hats off to Schalke midfielder Leroy Sane (on the right). The teenager was thoroughly impressive after he came on as a sub, scoring the third goal with a cracking drive and generally shining.

Another one off the German conveyor belt...

Karwolo Kamei: Whew, that was close!

Githu Gee: Ronaldo has bailed Real out twice - they might not be too lucky next time. Kudos to Schalke and Di Matteo.

Stuart Mitchell: The look on the Madrid players' faces tells the picture - they are lucky to still be in competition. Schalke were absolutely brilliant.

"Fierce reaction from Bernabeu fans - which was about the last month (Atletico, Athletic) as much as tonight's game. Enough is enough."

Comprehensive in the end for Bristol City, who go 13 points clear at the top of League One after a 3-0 win at Yeovil. On loan Wolves man George Saville made the game well and truly safe after collecting the rebound from his tame first effort before slamming in home. A top second half from The Robins.

Coventry 1-1 Bradford in the other League One fixture, with Sky Blues man Nick Proschwitz slicing a late effort wide.

Still playing in the Championship, where it remains Reading 2-1 Brighton. Not long to go.

Never mind signing another forward player, Real Madrid need another Claude Makelele.

"Shocking from Real Madrid. Utterly overrun in midfield. Toni Kroos will dream about a sea of blue shirts constantly running past him."

Plenty of Real Madrid fans were showing their dissent at full-time. I thought Spanish media talk of a crisis before the game was a long way wide of the mark but there are real problems there.

Old dog, old tricks. Basel defender Walter Samuel sees a second yellow card in stoppage time and is sent-off. Basel have been taught a lesson by a strong Porto side.
