    Dobs: Ronaldo 2-2 Schalke.

Steve Howes: Did someone forget to tell Schalke that Ronaldo is a good header of the ball? Where was the challenge?

Nitin R Menon: Real Madrid's defence is playing like they are Manchester United... except they don't have David De Gea to save them.

  2. NEW RECORDpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

That's a record for Cristiano Ronaldo - he's short of those. Seventy-six Champions League goals now, one ahead of Lionel Messi. Until next week.

  3. CLOSE!published at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

At the other end, Basel go close as Shkelzen Gashi flashes a shot past the post from 20 yards. He had more time than he realised to compose himself but that's the best Basel have done this half.

Three games in the lower leagues, and only one goal to report. Sorry about that.

We've played half an hour at the Madejski Stadium and it's Reading 1-0 Brighton. Before kick-off Jamie Mackie was presented with the fans' Player of the Month Award for February, and he's repaid them with a fine solo finish, beating a pair of Seagulls defenders before drilling it home. Great goal.

Into League One, and it's goalless between Yeovil and Bristol City. The chances have all been the league leaders', with a Marlon Pack free-kick heading into the corner before Scott Loach dived down low, just tipping it wide.

And Coventry 0-0 Bradford, with the Bantams close to taking the leader after a defensive mix-up lead to Sky Blues defender Aaron Martin deflecting the ball just wide of goal with his knee.

  5. CLOSE!published at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

Another decent chance for Porto as Cristian Tello latches onto a diagonal ball and lifts the ball over the Basel goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik, but his lay-off is hacked clear by Walter Samuel before Vincent Aboubakar can intercept.

Cristiano Ronaldo, targetman! What a header, again! The cross is magnificent, Fabio Coentrao with a hit on the run that is perfect, it dips and curves away from the Schalke defence, and Ronaldo arrives on it to plant the header into the roof of the net.

    Real rescued. Again!

One more goal for Schalke and they are through. Not many people expected that at this stage...

Matthew Noble: Schalke sense an upset here. They smell blood, with Real struggling!

Said Madrid: Real Madrid's game is being affected badly by melancholic state of Ronaldo...

Daniel Woodley: This Real Madrid team badly miss Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos. They look a shadow of their former selves without them...

Game on again! Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was so close to scoring a minute ago and now he has. Max Meyer shoots from a tight angle, again Iker Casillas is not very convincing, shovelling it out into the middle of the penalty area and the Dutch predator is on it, battering into the roof of the net.

Schalke have cancelled out Real's two away goals. A huge step forwards.

  12. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

More defensive nightmares for Real Madrid! Raphael Varane plays a backpass from the Antonio Valencia handbook, totally undercooked. Iker Casillas has to tackle Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and the rebounding ball bobbles a yard wide of the post. Could have gone anywhere.

And then that is majestic from Huntelaar! He drives in a half-volley from at least 25 yards, it rattles the outside of the post. Brilliant shot.

Gareth Bale drills in a shot on the turn but it's straight at Timon Wellenreuther. A slightly happier camp inside the stadium, Real playing much better than they were in the first 20 minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo screws a shot across goal on the run after a neat touch from Isco.

  14. Postpublished at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

Porto are not afraid to shoot on sight! Striker Vincent Aboubakar lets rip from 30 yards, on the bounce, and he cracks one, a real piledriver that fizzes past the post.

If Basel can keep the scoreline like this into the last 25 minutes or so they'll be happy enough. Bar the free-kick they've not looked in any danger.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

Schalke had done pretty much everything right as well. The sense of an upset was tangible.

The German side have to make a change as Eric Choupo-Moting has picked up an injury. Enter another teenager, Leroy Sane.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have now both scored 75 times in the Champions League. Ronaldo has 59 in 59 games for Real. It was a belting header too. Think Iffy Onuora or Andy Carroll.
