Ahead of tomorrow's big clash in west London, Paris St-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has warned his players not to lose their cool with famously combative Chelsea frontman Diego Costa, who "needs" confrontation to play at his best.

"He likes contact, and provokes opposition players. That's part of his game. He thrives off that," Blanc said.

"He really needs that to bring out the best in his performances.

"The most important thing is to not get caught up in the way he plays. He will try to provoke a reaction. We need to stay calm, not get caught up in his game. We need to be as effective as possible in stopping him."

Walter Samuel! He's still going. The Argentine centre-half was absolutely brilliant 15 years ago. Let's see how copes tonight. He's on a booking, one more and he'll miss the next game Basel play in the competition.

Carlo Ancelotti may have won the Champions League last year, and he may well win it again, but it already sounds like his time at Real Madrid will come to and end this summer. Such is life at the Bernabeu.

But who is likely to take his place? And who else do you expect to see on the move this summer?

Will this be the year that Arsene Wenger steps down at Arsenal? Who could take that job on?

Any other movers and shakers? Diego Simeone on the move?

Real - looking for their 11th European Cup win after making it 10 last May against city rivals Atletico - are 2-0 up from the first leg, with two away goals safely in the bank to boot.

Bookmakers make Schalke a 14/1 shot to progress tonight and their coach - former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo - was giving little away.

"I hope the media are right and their forwards are having a tough time - it's impossible to stop them altogether," he said.

"Three weeks ago I was asked about the crisis at Madrid - but I don't think there is a crisis. It would be a sensational experience for us to win. If we start scoring, it could get interesting."

Real Madrid make three changes from the side who lost to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Saturday, with Alvaro Arbeloa, Fabio Coentrao and Sami Khedira returning to the side.

Gareth Bale's former Tottenham teammate Luka Modric returns to the Real squad for the first time since suffering a torn thigh muscle in November.

Roberto Di Matteo's Schalke include former Real striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in their line-up, while midfielder Leon Goretzka is on the substitutes bench after recovering from a muscle injury.

The Germans are fifth in the Bundesliga following their 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Real Madrid XI: Casillas, Arbeloa, Varane, Pepe, Coentrao, Kroos, Khedira, Isco, Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema.

Schalke: Wellenreuther; Howedes, Fuchs, Nastasic, Matip; Meyer, Hoger, Barnetta, Neustadter; Choupo-Moting, Huntelaar

If Cristiano Ronaldo is under fire from some quarters for only bagging three goals in his last seven games, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are taking a hammering in the Madrid press.

Bale hasn't scored in eight games - a run dating back to 24 January - and French forward Benzema has just 13 goals in 24 league games.

Not useless, not by a long stretch. But if you play up front for Real Madrid the demands are huge.

All three of them could do with a goal or two tonight. Which could give us quite some game...

  11. Football League previewpublished at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2015

There are three games in the Football League tonight.

In the Championship, FA Cup quarter-finalists Reading face Brighton, while League One leaders Bristol City are at Yeovil and another FA Cup survivor Bradford City take on Coventry.

The spotlight may fall on Madrid tonight but the other knockout game promises to be a tight, tense affair.

Former Swansea, Leicester and QPR boss Paulo Sousa led Swiss side Basel into the knockout stages, with Liverpool one of their victims in their group.

The first leg was drawn and an away goal for Basel tonight would be massive.

Sousa says: "This feels amazing. It's something really special to compete at this level and we are happy to be here, competing against the best - we are confident and positive.

"Any time we can relieve the pressure posed by Porto we can create difficulties. That might be when our goal appears."

When you set standards that are in the stratosphere, being just 'good' won't cut it.

Real's Cristiano Ronaldo is having a stellar season - with 30 league goals in 23 appearances, and 39 in all competitions - but there is the slightest suggestion he is not at his best at the moment.

He failed to score in defeat to Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, and has not had a single shot on target in four of his last eight La Liga games.

Just three goals in his last seven games? By his own standards that's rubbish...

"Without doubt I have confidence in my forwards. There has been a general dip from the team, not just them.

"I would have to drop Karim Benzema because he hasn't scored in a few games. I would have to drop Cristiano. I don't think Gareth Bale is happy with how he is playing but he understands that he has to improve."

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has been forced to defend his world-famous front three this week after 'The BBC' of Benzema, Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo were accused of misfiring.

Everything is relative, but are Real's superstars off the boil?
