"Unless the pattern of play changes it's a matter of time until Barca score. From this birds eye view you can see how stretched City are with every Barca attack.

"City just cannot give Neymar the space to pick up the ball in his own half and run 50 yards unchallenged. They have to get more compact or Barca will run riot."

"Barcelona are on a different planet to this Manchester City team, individually and collectively. At the minute there is only one team in it."

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

Blink and you'll miss it! Barcelona put together a sensational move, one-touch from Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi to run rings around the men in blue. Messi shoots from a tight angle and Joe Hart saves with his feet.

Sensational stuff. If there's a team in Europe better than Barcelona on current form, I'd like to see them.

The best form of defence could be attack? City have looked a bag of nerves at the back but they now come forwards and Sergio Aguero is allowed to carry the ball a long way. He is invited to shoot, and he does, the ball deflecting just wide.

David Silva puts in a tackle and you can see the water flying up. As Robbie Savage said [4 mins], the pitch is soaking.

Vincent Kompany is playing like an impersonator at the moment. He does just about get a foot on the ball to cut out Luis Suarez's cross but Barcelona are playing at a different speed, on a different level.

"Vincent Kompany, come on what are you doing? He's gone to clear the ball but waited and waited and the ball has been nicked off him. He has got to start this game much better. Neymar should have scored."

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

Barca's front three get together for the first time - and they are so close to scoring! Vincent Kompany takes too long to clear his lines, he's mugged by Dani Alves who the finds Neymar.

Neymar, one-on-one, beats Joe Hart with a low shot, it hits the post and runs across the line, before going wide! What a chance! More slack play from Kompany.

"They soaked the pitch so much before the game. It's a very slippery surface but a great night for football."

Manchester City making a strong start. Good, slick possession so far before Samir Nasri and Jordi Alba have a bit of a shoving match in the corner. Alba actually gave him a little slap, silly boy...

You'd still have Carlos Tevez in this Manchester City side wouldn't you? He and Sergio Aguero didn't play together much - but it was good fun when they did.

James Milner has started on the left tonight, to help keep an eye on Lionel Messi.

A very early goal! Not in Barcelona, but in Dortmund, where Carlos Tevez has just hammered in an absolute belter from 25 yards. Juve have an away goal and the former City striker may have put the Italians through.

Alan: City needs a bit of luck to go through. I think its the luck that has been missing for English teams, EPL still the best

Shivam Manghnani: Football is cyclical. Always has been, always will be. German teams struggled from 2005-2009, Italians from 11-15

Charleschip: Chelsea and Arsenal were both complacent whereas Man City getting tough draws doesn't help

Anthem played, hands shaken, hugs dished out by Yaya Toure.

City must score twice. A 1-0 win and they go out on away goals...

    Chris Waddle
    BBC Radio 5 live

"In the Premier League we look at City's squad and say 'wow. Look at the depth'. But how many would get in Barcelona's team? City have got a good squad but Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have got better squads."

Stephen in Edinburgh: English clubs are struggling in Europe due to the schedule of the Premier League. We need a winter break.

Jon Wood in Berkshire: English clubs have become obsessed with style of play to the detriment of decent defending. The best European clubs can play pretty football AND defend - at the moment ours can't.

Richard Phillips in Reading: Premier League may spend a lot of money on bringing in the best foreign players, but surely the lack of home grown exports to outside the UK says something?
