"A very disappointing goal for Stoke to concede. There will be a few question marks over their positioning there from the cross. Arsenal have made a fantastic start and that goal caps it all off."

Former Stoke captain Andy Griffin on BBC Radio Stoke: "It's been far too easy for Arsenal. Asmir Begovic made two good saves before the goal. The centre-half is unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box. That cannot happen."

It has been an electric start by Arsenal and little surprise they take the lead. Moments after Asmir Begovic produces a fine save to deny Tomas Rosicky, the Stoke keeper is beaten as Laurent Koscielny powers in a header from Alexis Sanchez's perfect cross.

There's one game in the Championship this afternoon, with Wolves travelling to Blackburn. Both sides know victory would put them on the cusp of the play-off places and both are in reasonably good form - Blackburn have lost only one of their last four games in all competitions and Wolves are unbeaten in five. Should be a good contest.

Blackburn XI: Steele, Baptiste, Hanley, Duffy, Olsson, Taylor, Cairney, Williamson, Marshall, Rhodes, Gestede.

Wolves XI: Ikeme, Iorfa, Batth, Stearman, Hause, Price, McDonald, Henry, Edwards, van La Parra, Dicko.

This is a pleasing start for Arsene Wenger as Arsenal are straight on the front foot, Alexis Sanchez bending a shot towards the far corner but Asmir Begovic stretches out a glove to push it behind.

Wenger, by the way, has decided not to wear a coat today, even though it is pretty chilly. Zip 1 Wenger 0.

Leenos, Worcs: Offloading Szezesny is a load of rubbish. He is a decent stopper, young and an international. He may be temperamental but I like him. Why the haters?

Peter Crouch is rolling his neck as the players start to line up in the tunnel as kick-off approaches, readying himself for the prospect of winning a few headers today.

Crouch scored after just 19 seconds in the game between the two sides at the Britannia Stadium earlier this season, will he be as quick off the mark today?

  11. Postpublished at 13:22 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2015

    Guy Mowbray
BBC Match of the Day commentator at Emirates Stadium

"Arsenal's inferiority complex about going to Stoke's Britannia Stadium has been widely discussed. Arsene Wenger even admitted his side were "too soft" to cope with the Potters in their 3-2 defeat last month.

"Yet, when it comes to this reverse fixture, the Potters' wheels have come off - they have lost each of their last 12 league and cup visits, including all six in the Premier League.

"An early City goal at the Emirates would certainly make for an interesting watch. The Gunners have only gone on to win once in four matches after falling behind at home this campaign, and that was against Crystal Palace in their season opener."

I have just been told Arsenal have actually banned "selfie sticks" at the Emirates. Tut tut to those fans I just spotted then.

Urgh. Just spotted a "selfie stick" in use by a couple of fans in the stands. If there is one thing I dislike more than the term "selfie" it is "selfie sticks".

Admittedly, this may be partly motivated by the fact that I didn't get there first with the invention, but they do genuinely grind my gears. As if someone stretching out their arm and gurning at their camera phone was not bad enough at sporting events, there are now hoards of folk waving sticks about in the air with their phones clamped on the end of them.

Tottenham have the right idea, banning them from White Hart Lane. Top work.

It is a lovely day in North London with a brilliant blue sky above the Emirates Stadium as the players go through their pre-match warm up. Slightly chilly, exemplified by Arsenal players warming up with gloves on, but the conditions should make for a good game.

"I don't think John Carver will get it. Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley was in London on Friday and it is believed he held talks with Remi Garde and he is the favourite to become the new head coach of Newcastle United."

Jason Burt, football reporter for the Sunday Telegraph, on reports Chelsea will refuse to allow players to join an England squad meet-up later this month: "The problem for Chelsea is they have the league cup semi-final legs coming up and then the game against Manchester City the weekend after it. If it's at St George's Park, they won't let him go. If it was in London, they'd say yes. But, the fact Jose Mourinho is saying he won't let Gary Cahill go, they should knock the idea on the head."

Jason Burt reacting to Chelsea 2-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday: "Chelsea were outplayed for 40 minutes. Cisse and Cabella were superb going forward for Newcastle, but they didn't get the goal and it ended up changing the dynamic of the game. I think Chelsea were still suffering a bit from the Tottenham defeat. Chelsea really should be further ahead than two points at this stage and they've missed some opportunities to really dominate the league."
