Before we leave you, a look at the final Group A standings.

Claude Le Roy's Congo qualify as group winners and will face the runners-up of Group B in the quarter-finals.

Host nation Equatorial Guinea extend their stay - they go through second and will play the winners of Group B (very possibly Tunisia) in Ebebiyin next.

In fact, it was much the same story in Bata. Gabon had almost twice as much of the ball as Equatorial Guinea, but the hosts were resourceful in possession and created the better opportunities.

Hard to quibble that Equatorial Guinea and Congo deserve their place in the quarter-finals.

Well, Burkina Faso may have dominated possession in Ebebiyin, but for most of the game they did precious little with it.

Congo saw less of the ball but were the better side, managing more shots and getting more of those efforts on target.

Well, on a weekend of shocks perhaps it's fitting that rank outsiders Congo and Equatorial Guinea seal their progress to the knockout stages from Group A - and in convincing style, you have to say.

A lot of Equatorial Guinea players screaming into the camera - there will be some party in Bata and across the country tonight.

Equatorial Guinea, by the way, isn't even on the equator - I just thought you should know.

BBC Sport's Matthew Kenyon in Ebebiyin

"Remember that both these qualified teams were given lifelines into this tournament. Equatorial Guinea were ousted from qualifying for using an ineligible player - and now they're back as hosts. And Congo were knocked out of pre-qualifying by Rwanda, only to be returned to the competition because Rwanda had used a player who turned out to have two footballing identities - one for the country, and the other for his club in DR Congo.

"And the Burkinabe drums have stopped for good at Afcon."

    Scenes. Equatorial Guinea are through.

Congo deservedly qualify as group winners. Coach Claude Le Roy continues his remarkable run of Afcon success - that's his seventh quarter-final in eight appearances at this tournament.

Burkina just didn't get going until far too late. A bad end to a hugely disappointing campaign from the 2013 runners-up.

  10. INJURY TIMEpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Five added on, half of that gone. But this one is done. It's party time in Bata.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

What an incredible finish to this match. Alain Traore sends an absolute howitzer of a free-kick against the bar from 30 yards. Too little, too late from Burkina.

We knew we were doing this live text with more notice than Esteban Becker had that he'd be managing in it.

Equatorial Guinea coach Esteban Becker will be a popular man - he's only been in charge for a couple of weeks.

The Argentine, who managed the Equatoguinean women's team, was named 11 days before the tournament opener after Andoni Goikoetxea's contract was not renewed.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Congo take a little time out of the game, switching Franci Litsingi for Cesar Mandze.

  15. GOALpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Just as Burkina Faso prise the door ajar, it's slammed back in their faces, and it's down to a goalkeeping howler. Congo win a free-kick on the right, Delvin N'Dinga curls it in, and Germain Sanou's dreadful punch ricochets off the shoulder of Fabrice Ondama and loops into the net. Congo are home and hosed.

  16. GOALpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Substitute Issiaka Ouedraogou robs a Congo player on the right flank and curls in a delicious cross which Aristide Bance can't fail to miss from three yards. He doesn't. Game on.

  17. GOALpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Javier Balboa pulls the ball across to Emilio Nsue, whose shot is saved and the rebound is scuffed in by teenage substitute Iban.

The hosts are going through. Gabon are going across the border back home.

  18. Postpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Gabon have a free-kick but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hits it miles over. Woeful from any player, let alone their captain and key man. Five minutes to go.

  19. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Burkina Faso have the ball in the net but it won't count. Alain Traore curls in a free-kick, keeper Christopher Mafoumbi spills it and substitute Issiaka Ouedraogou bundles it in, but the flag is up for offside.

Please trust us that Equatorial Guinea will go through in second as things stand, unfortunately our as it stands table hasn't reflected their goal.
