Chief among the reasons for Burkina's struggles has been their failure to find the net.
Despite having one of the more vaunted forward lines in the tournament, containing Alain Traore, Aristide Bance and Afcon qualifying top scorer Jonathan Pitroipa, the Stallions are the only side yet to score at this tournament. Everyone else managed it after one match!
Speaking before this game, coach Paul Put - not terribly reassuringly - said the malaise was nothing new.
"It's not just now that we have this problem," he said. "In qualifying it was also difficult to score goals. We have been dominating, we have been creating a lot of chances. We are trying, but you have to be patient because strikers can change in one minute."

"Cracking atmosphere because of the two sets of partisan fans - but nothing really to get your teeth sunk into in this one. Pitroipa's trickery isn't making itself felt - although the service to the speedy front man has been reasonable so far from Burkina Faso. Congo's Bifouma has created a couple of chances but hasn't really tested Sanou in goal. The draw suits Congo very much... how long till we see big Bance coming on for Burkina Faso?"
BBC Sport's Nick Cavell in Bata
"The home crowd seem to be lifting this Equatorial Guinea side who have created by far the better chances in the first half. Nsue, Fabiani and Kike are all causing the Gabonese defence problems. Gabon have shown glimpses of what they are capable of with the occasional neat passing moves that have had Aubameyang at the heart of them - he has had the Panthers' best chance but headed straight at the keeper. Gabon need more of those passing triangles and for Aubameyang to find some more moments of skill."
The referee calls time on a rather disappointing half in Ebebiyin. Burkina Faso still await their first goal of Afcon 2015 - and they're running out of time to find it...
Congo cruising towards qualification as things stand.
Sure who needs any injury-time?
Gabon through as things stand, Equatorial Guinea are out.
Well well, that is rather unorthodox. Burkina ping yet another long ball forward, and Congo keeper Christopher Mafoumbi canters to the edge of his area - with a Burkina striker bearing down on him - and heads it clear. Not sure even Manuel Neuer would try that one.
And now an even better chance for Burkina. The ball is crossed into the box from the left, it pinballs around and a ricochet off Razak Traore's knee sits up nicely for Jonathan Pitroipa, but the striker's chest control won't sit down nicely and he ends up sending his finish over the bar.
Kate Lynham: Diafra Sakho unavailable for Senegal but played today in FA Cup... aren't there international rules against that?
I think Senegal decided not to call him up with his injury, rather than West Ham telling them he wasn't fit.
BBC Sport's Matthew Kenyon in Ebebiyin
"Thievy Bifouma is the man who Claude Le Roy has praised consistently through this tournament so far. He knows he's their key man. And he's been making some keen runs to put pressure on the Burkinabe defence. And received some close attention for it. At the other end Jonathan Pitroipa is getting closer, closer, closer.... but it hasn't been happening for him just yet."
Raul Fabiani, who seconds earlier is annoyed when a pass across the box is played past him, has one of the best chances of the game. The Equatorial Guinea man receives the ball on his chest with his back to goal, turns defender Bruno Ecuele Manga and half-volleys off target. He did well to get an effort away there.
That's better from the Stallions. This time Jonathan Pitroipa turns provider, slipping the darting Prejuce Nakoulma through the middle, but the midfielder can't find a touch to control the ball and the keeper intervenes.
Burkina Faso are really overdoing it with the long balls now. The 2013 finalists look short of ideas. They have to find more subtlety than this if they're going to penetrate the Congo back four.
Congo midfielder Delvin N'Dinga swings in a free-kick from the left which is headed out by Bakary Kone, but only as far as Arnold Moutou, who lofts an ambitious effort well over.
Still goalless in both games on the half-hour mark. As it stands, Congo and Gabon would go through.
BBC Sport's Matthew Kenyon in Ebebiyin
"They're too far away to get a photo unfortunately - but the Congolese fans have got two giant posters of their favourite players. Thievy Bifouma and Dore Ferebory are the guys in question. And rather than watch the match, a lot of the fans on that side of the stadium are off on an early conga..."
A Congo conga?
One of the many statistical curiosities of this tournament (alongside the fact that half the games have finished 1-1) is that we are yet to see anyone score more than one goal.
Ibrahima Traore's cracking equaliser for Guinea yesterday took the number of different goalscorers in this tournament to 30 (including Thulani Hlatshwayo's own goal) - which means that it's currently a 29-way tie, external for the top-scorer honours.
Will we see someone surge to the top of the charts today?
Frederic Bulot plays a one-two with Malick Evouna in the penalty area and forces another save from Equatorial Guinea keeper Felipe Ovono.
Gabon definitely on top now.
Burkina forward Jonathan Pitroipa is caught offside for a fifth time. The man who was named the tournament's best player at Afcon 2013 has had a bit of a shocker so far.
