Cambridge United chairman Dave Doggett: "Ten years ago we were in administration, and even two years ago we were losing £25,000 a month, but we kept the youth policy going and, as a group of directors who are all fans of the club from the 1940s, we just kept going, and kept the youth development going.

"When you drop out of the Football League you get no support for youth development whatsoever, but tonight there are four in the squad who came through that system. It just goes to show that you can do it with honesty, integrity and determination. Now the ground is full and there is an enthusiasm in the town. Everybody has heard of Cambridge University, but after tonight everyone will have heard of Cambridge United."

We've discussed the best FA Cup shocks a lot this season - but what is the most surprised you've ever been at another, non-football sporting moment?

Ikechukwu Nlemadim: How about Chioma Ajunwa winning gold in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games? Does that deserve a mention as a shock in sport?

Ajunwa won gold in the long jump and is Nigeria's only individual Olympic gold medallist to date.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Abbey Stadium

"No Wayne Rooney tonight but a good chance for youngster Adnan Januzaj to remind Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal of his quality on his first start since the draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford in October.

"Cambridge's fans were gathering at the Abbey Stadium hours before kick-off. This is a wonderful night for chairman Dave Doggett as the club re-establish themselves in the Football League after a nine-year absence and now have the chance to slay the giants of Manchester United."

I cannot confirm or deny that the pitch has been mowed to a uniform length all over tonight...

It looks in fine fettle though as the players warm up. Phil Neville is complaining that it is freezing in the TV studio. so it must be cold out there.

Former Cambridge United and Manchester United striker Dion Dublin

"The people of Cambridge took to the way we played the game which was incredibly ugly! Our manager John Beck knew all the tricks. He actually decided to grow the grass long in the final third of the pitch. The thinking being when the ball was smashed up field from deep it would stop in the longer grass, our wingers would get there and cross it for me, Steve Claridge and John Taylor to nod it in. Simplicity!"

"The Cambridge United team I was involved with in the early '90s, it was a team the likes of which this club will probably not see again. I think it was a failure we didn't get to the Premier League. Had we got there we would have been the first team to go right through the divisions in consecutive seasons. As a unit there were not many better than us. We took Arsenal close on a couple of occasions, we drew with Manchester United at home."

There was a lot of chat that former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes would make his debut tonight but in hindsight, perhaps away at a League Two side isn't the best place to make your first appearance in English football...

Paul Bernal: Good luck Cambridge United - I played at the Abbey as a youth in a local cup final 33 years ago. It's barely changed.

Tom Hill: Looking forward to tonight's game. Good old cup game but Manchester United's team is still insanely strong in comparison!

Charlie: I thought Valdes would start to be honest. Strong line-up from Louis van Gaal.

Former Cambridge United and Manchester United striker Dion Dublin

"When I played there the Abbey Stadium was a ground that not one football club enjoyed going. As soon as they saw those floodlights they must have thought 'oh no, here we go, get those tin hats on we're going to get a fight against Cambridge United!'

"The car pak still hasn't been tarmaced! The home dressing room is still the same with quotes on the wall such as 'attitude drives performance' and 'the harder I work, the luckier I get'. Cambridge United were also famous for their cold showers as well! It was a club that turned me from a boy into a man."

You've probably seen a fair amount of Luke Chadwick this week as the former Manchester United winger prepares to face the club with his boyhood side.

Chadwick, 34, is on the bench tonight after injury but if he can stand up, he must surely be involved.

Chadwick spoke to our very own Chris Osborne back in May about his surprising decision to go and play for the side who were then playing in the Conference. He helped them to promotion and has been a regular when fit this season too.

With unusual and remarkable honesty, he said: "From the moment I went there I don't think I truly believed I would be a regular Manchester United player.

"I just wanted to play football. I didn't want the fame and stuff that came with it. In the end I think I was happy to get away from United. It's a fantastic club and I wouldn't say a bad word against it.

"But I don't think I was really cut out for it. I wouldn't have enjoyed staying there. You've got to be something special to play at the club for a long period of time."

Tom, Sheffield: Surely has to be Steven Bradbury winning gold in 2002. A true underdog story, if a little lucky..

Bradbury was left to cross the line as winner after four skaters came tumbling down in the final.
