Excellent targetman play from Tom Elliott, taking the ball on his chest and winning a foul from Marcos Rojo. A chance for the hosts to get out and push up. But they waste it, going offside from the set-piece.

As poor as Manchester United have been, you wouldn't want to be sitting deep for the whole remaining 40 minutes.

"From Manchester United's perspective, they have shown that they understand what this game is all about. They are prepared to be patient. It is all about that first goal and how it changes the complexion of the game - we saw that in the previous round with United's game against Yeovil."

Ryan Giggs shivers on the bench, huddled up in his tracksuit.

"Get him on!" is the cry from my right. Not going to happen.

    Martin Keown
BBC Sport at the Abbey Stadium

"It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall in Manchester United's dressing room. I expect Louis van Gaal has told his players he wants more urgency and intensity from them. Maybe they need to be a bit more direct."

Cambridge are very deep, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones both in their half as they start another attack. It's a corner which Jones will again take. This is bizarre. Cleared.

Antonio Valencia beats his man and the cross comes in, Adnan Januzaj has it on the left and he is positive, drilling a low shot which Chris Dunn fields well at his near post.

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville
    BBC Sport

"Manchester United have got go start playing the ball quicker. James Wilson is a player who likes to run in behind but he has had no service whatsoever. Every time Michael Carrick has got the ball he's taken the safe option by passing it to the side. He has to start looking forward."

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Game on. It took Manchester United more than an hour to score at Yeovil in the last round.

"I think Ryan Donaldson has been the best player on the park, which is something when you think of the amount of money spent on some of these players. If Cambridge United are going to get something out of the game they will be looking to him. It's a big 45 minutes for him now."

The players are back out. Have Cambridge switched off or are they still pumped?

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at the Abbey

"Cambridge's fans gave their side a rousing reception at half-time - and no wonder after more than holding their own against a horribly laboured Manchester United. This is Yeovil revisited for them."

Matthew Penistone: For Mesut Ozil last year read Angel Di Maria this. Big money from Real Madrid, good start, but then totally off the boil played out of position.

Ken Gorry: David de Gea is a great shot-stopper but he doesn't dominate his box in the same way as Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

Olly Clements: Someone's gonna be buying Ryan Donaldson after this performance, playing out of his skin.

So Cambridge could double their annual income in one game if there was a replay at Old Trafford! That is extraordinary. So if it's 0-0 with 10 to go do they go for the winner?

    You'd hope so...

"The difficulty for Richard Money is getting his players to reproduce that again in the second half now. They will get tired."

"Manchester United have been playing too slowly. They've given Cambridge far too much time to get behind the ball, and then they have had to pass the ball back. Adnan Januzaj will be a world beater - I am sure of that. He has just not played enough games to find his rhythm in matches like this."
