Both sets of players re-emerge from the Nou Camp tunnel. I'm sure the ears of the Atletico players will be ringing from Diego Simeone's half-time rocket.

Providing there isn't a remarkable turnaround at the Nou Camp, the Spanish top-flight table will make better reading for Barcelona then it will Atletico.

At least JB (see below) is optimistic of an away fightback. Admirable.

But, of course, he is right because only a fool would completely write off Atletico. Or, for that matter, write off any Diego Simeone side.

Barcelona have been excellent. Atletico have been woeful. Don't believe me? The first-half statistics back it up...

"If Lionel Messi really is trying to get Luis Enrique sacked, as many think, he's not doing a very good job of it tonight. He has been outstanding, and in general it was easily Barca's most organised, disciplined and committed 45 minutes of the season. Perhaps last season as well. Atletico can only improve, and surely will."

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2015

Crisis? What crisis? I wish my team were suffering this type of crisis.

Barcelona, inspired by Lionel Messi, are purring against their title rivals. I imagine Atletico boss Diego Simeone will be firing out a few choice words at the break.

Barca are sniffing blood as half-time approaches. But Luis Suarez runs out of space in the left channel as the ball drifts out of play. One minute of added time.

Wills Oblates Ubuntu:, external Funny old game. Pressure was on Enrique to win, his team is winning. Pressure was on Suarez to deliver and he just scored.

Lionel Messi is enjoying himself - and nearly nets with a bullet header. That goes down as another chance for Barcelona as the ball flashes past the Atletico post after Messi was picked out by Dani Alves.

Five minutes for Atletico to make a fist of this before half-time. But to be honest, that does not look like happening - Barca keeper Claudio Bravo has not got his gloves dirty yet. No shots on target for the visitors.

Barca coach Luis Enrique shows what a win would mean to him, jigging with delight on the touchline after Luis Suarez fires in the second.

It is not the slickest move, rather like an embarrassed uncle trying to dance at a wedding. But he has suffered a lot of flak recently, so we'll let him off.

There it is. Easy peasy for Barcelona as Lionel Messi carves apart the Atletico defence in the blink of the eye. Despite a suspicion of handball in the build-up, the Argentine quickly threads through to Luis Suarez who clinically buries a first-time shot. Long way back for Atletico.

Oh hello. Tempers flare as Atletico striker Mario Mandzukic clashes with Barca midfielder Sergio Busquets. It is like a scene outside a nightclub as about 15 men pile in. Yellow card for Mandzukic, who caught Busquets with a flailing arm as they jumped for a high ball.

"It's been a strangely flat and uncompetitive first half hour from Atletico, and Diego Simeone has been an animated figure on the sidelines in the last few minutes, making a number of exhortations to his players and having an extended chat with his assistant German Burgos. We'll have to see what solution they can dream up, but this start has not been like Atletico at all."

So far so good for Barcelona coach Luis Enrique. His side have battered Atletico in the opening half-hour, although he may be concerned that they don't have a second goal to show for their dominance.

  18. Postpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2015

More Lionel Messi magic. The Barcelona forward, playing more on the right with Luis Suarez through the middle and Neymar on the left, has Atletico left-back Jesus Gamez on toast.

Messi skips past his opponent inside the Atletico box, unleashing a fierce shot at the away goal. But keeper Miguel Angel Moya sticks out a big right hand to block.

  20. CLOSE!published at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2015

Barcelona should be 2-0 ahead. Neymar somehow manages not to double his personal tally as he fires wide with the goal gaping.

Luis Suarez picked him out at the far post with a sumptuous lobbed pass. Atletico could be further behind than just 1-0.
