That Diego Simeone is a fibber isn't he? Last year, the Atletico coach claimed his team weren't capable of winning La Liga and now he is spinning out the same line. But Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is refusing to buy it.

"Last season Simeone was saying at this stage that he didn't think his team were real contenders for the title. But he 'tricked' us," says the Barca boss.

"Now he's saying the same thing again, and we're not falling for it. Atletico play very well as a unit. And they are very dangerous from set pieces and on the counter attack."

  7. When they last metpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2015

Cast your mind back eight months to a world where Luis Enrique was still Celta Vigo coach, Luis Suarez was still a Liverpool player and Fernando Torres was still struggling to score goals. At least some things don't change.

Anyway, back in May, these sides met in the mother of all title showdowns. The final day of a pulsating season. Second v first.

Barca knew they would snatch La Liga with a victory. Atletico knew a draw would secure their first title since 1996.

The home side went ahead as Alexis Sanchez smashed in a superb first-half opener, before Diego Godin headed an equaliser after the break.

And the 1-1 draw was enough for Atletico, with the Nou Camp sportingly rising to its collective feet to salute the 'campeones' at the final whistle.

"At the 27th time of asking, Barca boss Luis Enrique STILL hasn't repeated a starting eleven, naming 27 different line-ups. You'd think that wouldn't be mathematically possible, but he's somehow achieved it. And he might not get too many more chances because it's quite feasible this could prove to be his last game in charge.

"That might seem extreme, but sacking an unpopular manager who has fallen out with the team's star player would hardly be a shock in the run-up to a presidential election."

"All quiet inside the Nou Camp an hour before kick off. It was also suspiciously quiet walking down the hill towards the stadium - Barca only attracted just over 27,000 fans for their midweek cup match, but surely fans will show tonight? Anything less than close to a full house for such a big game will be a clear sign of the extent of the fans' current dissatisfaction."
