Swansea boss Garry Monk on Gomis: "He trains very well, his attitude is good and on top of that he is a good footballer and we need as many of those as possible in the team."

On today's game: "I think being a Premier League team you have that tag as favourites but we have been the underdog for many years in cup competitions and we still have that mentality.

"Any time you suffer any defeat is bad but especially in the manner we did, it was very unlike us. The players have been itching to get back on track and this is our opportunity."

  3. Gomis to get the goals?published at 12:36 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2015

The speculation Lawro refers to comes from a French TV interview in which Bafetimbi Gomis claims that Swansea did not fulfil promises over playing time.

The 29-year-old striker is unhappy about his lack of starts, with Wilfried Bony, now sold to Manchester City, having been preferred up front.

"When Bony was here, it was planned I should play a certain number of games, that wasn't the case," Gomis said. "Today, I ask myself many questions. I need time to think."

The big man gets his chance today, though.

    Mark Lawrenson
    Football Analyst

"It looks like Blackburn will be selling their star striker, and Swansea have obviously already sold theirs in Wilfried Bony. Crystal Palace are in for Rudy Gestede, who joined Rovers for £250,000 a year ago and could be sold for about £4m.

"But Blackburn will miss Gestede because Jordan Rhodes has found goals a lot harder to come by in the Championship this season than previous campaigns.

"Swansea are already finding out what life is like without Bony, and it did not start well with last week's 5-0 defeat by Chelsea.

"I am a little bit worried about where they will go next in the league, especially with speculation over Bafetimbi Gomis's future too, but they should have enough to get through to the next round."

    Lawro's prediction: 0-1

    Former Wales international Robbie Savage

"Manchester United were too slow in possession last night. Radamel Falcao was making the runs but they weren't delivering the ball quickly enough to him. For all the money United have spent, not to test the Cambridge United goalkeeper, except for late in the second half, was very poor. It's not good enough."

If newspaper reports, external are to be believed, the long-term replacement for Wilfried Bony is sat on the opposition's bench today.

Life after Wilfried Bony - who joined Manchester City earlier this month - did not exactly get off to the perfect start for Swansea.

They were resoundingly thumped 5-0 by Premier League leaders Chelsea in their last game, a performance which prompted Swans boss Garry Monk to apologise to Jose Mourinho for his side failing to compete.

"When you have a result like that - and I've played in games where unfortunately I've been on the end of those type of results - you cannot wait for the next game to come," says Monk. "We had a good chat with the players as soon as they were back in and we are ready to go."

Swansea made their first big move in the transfer market last week, bringing in Kyle Naughton from Tottenham for a cool £5m, and the defender is hoping to have as big an impact at the Swans as Gylfi Sigurdsson did.

Sigurdsson moved from Spurs to the Swans last summer and the switch has reinvigorated his career, with the midfielder having scored five goals and provided eight assists - the second most in the Premier League.

"Gylfi has obviously been a big success down here since moving from Spurs and it would be nice if I can do that myself," says Naughton., external "He has not put a foot wrong so fingers crossed I can do something similar."

Blackburn have not been in great form lately, with their only win in their last five games coming in the FA Cup, and boss Gary Bowyer has thrown out the stock cliches in his pre-game interview.

"Form goes out of the window in the cup games," he says.

"It is a game we are really looking forward to a Premier League team coming to town and a chance for us to measure ourselves against them."
