"I think the shocks of yesterday will have helped West Ham. Those players will be so switched on to make sure it does not happen to them. I think they will win."

Here we go. Bristol City sprint out of the tunnel, some early mind games from the Robins. Ashton Gate is buzzing, we're buzzing, you're buzzing. Buzzing.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill, speaking to BBC Sport: "There is perhaps a bit more pressure on us after the Bradford result yesterday and even if we win today that will be the result of the weekend. It was magnificent for their football club. It might also have made it more difficult for us. I am sure West Ham would have been well drilled anyway, but they are now third or fourth favourites to win the FA Cup and I am sure that is a good incentive. But if we play to our best you never know.

"We haven't changed anything. The preparation has been good all of the season. There is more hype surrounding a match against a Premier League team and that is fantastic for everybody to experience. If we can top that off by getting a fantastic result, then it really will have been a good week."

  6. Change of heart from Big Sampublished at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Sam Allardyce drew criticism from the West Ham faithful after fielding a youthful and under strength team in last season's embarrassing FA Cup third-round 5-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest. With a stronger squad and the club sitting pretty in the league, Allardyce has vowed "to go all out" for the FA Cup this season.

He took Bolton to the FA Cup semi-final in 2000, losing 4-1 on penalties to Aston Villa. Dean Holdsworth missed a great chance to win it as I recall...

Ashton Gate is bouncing now. It's a shame that fourth end is not finished - I'm sure they could have sold it out several times over today.

Just over 10 minutes to kick-off. Another upset?

  8. From Barca to Bristol?published at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown, speaking to BBC Sport: "Bradford City have the same initials as us so perhaps we can emulate their performance against Chelsea. Bristol City Football Club is the fulcrum of what we are trying to do with sport in Bristol.

"A few years ago I went to Barcelona and saw all the other sports the club promotes, all the trophies they have and I thought that is the way forward, to support the city, and inspire people who come and watch the basketball, the rugby, the football, to play. When the stadium is finished there will be 27,000 people here. The ambition is to get more and more people talking about Bristol sport."

Excitement building at Ashton Gate. I'm certainly looking forward to this one - and we will have team news from Villa Park in the next 20 minutes too.

Bournemouth have made a habit of making sweeping changes in the cups this season. Will they go full-strength today?

    Sir Trevor Brooking
Former West Ham and England midfielder

"If you had told me in 1975 or 80 that we wouldn't get our hands on the cup in another 35 years then I would have sat you down and said: 'No! Of course we will, we're a cup-winning team!'

"But when it comes down to it, it just eludes you for a variety of reasons. We were within touching distance in 2006. You would like to sample that again."

There's more from Sir Trev on the FA Cup here.

  11. "We have to stop their threat"published at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, speaking to BBC Sport: "This weekend has probably been the most astounding week of FA Cup matches ever. For us it is about making sure we are not a victim of the lower league success, making sure we are professional and have the right attitude against a team who are in great form at the moment. It will be a difficult game, but hopefully we will be good enough to beat them. It would be shame if our efforts against Everton in the previous round were wasted. But even if we can't get the win today, we would take the draw and a replay.

"Bristol City can play off the front two, they are very physical up front but can also play through midfield and their wing-backs like to bomb on. Their major threat is crosses into the box, and we have to stop that threat. Then hopefully when we are in possession we can expose some of the weaknesses they have."

  12. Long time comingpublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

Bristol City's last home win over West Ham came in the 1977-78 season when they won both home and away league fixtures. Since then the Hammers have won five and drawn five of the 10 matches.

  13. Postpublished at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2015

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce says it "has been the most astounding weekend of FA Cup football ever". Well played sir, that is bang on message...

    Former England midfielder Danny Murphy
    Match of the Day

"If you look the teams that have gone out, there is a real chance for somebody. You can see in the strength of West Ham's team that Sam Allardyce is really taking seriously. Another good sign for West Ham fans is that Winston Reid is playing, after all the speculation linking him to a transfer.

"Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Matt Smith are strong up front for Bristol City but Luke Freeman is the one to watch. Steve Cotterill has converted him from a wide man and he has probably been their most creative player of the season."

Bristol City's number nine Matt Smith came to the fore with goals against Liverpool in the FA Cup for Oldham a few years ago and they do have options up there.

Targetman Smith, the Berbatov-like Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Luke Freeman in an advanced midfield role too.

Freeman was signed by Arsenal as a teenager, went off the boil a bit, but now he's back on the way up. And he's still only 22.

    Former England winger Trevor Sinclair
    Match of the Day

"Sam Allardyce has done such a great job at West Ham. His recruitment has been top drawer. They have a different dimension to last season, a lot of pace going forward. They are seventh in the Premier League but they could be higher."

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas puts his goalscoring record in the FA Cup down to the 'mango' ball. "It matches my boots," the big man says.

"Dennis Smith spent £500,000 to bring me to Bristol City. It was fantastic for me to come here. Steve Cotterill has done a great job, last season they were second form bottom but now the are flying. They a have a good chance of being promoted, and I think they have a good chance of landing an FA Cup upset too here today."
