Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on 606: "They are top of the league in the Championship so it was important to start at a good pace and we did that well.

"We were in control of the game, not because Boro were weak but because we were strong.

"We are holders of the trophy and we want to do everything to keep it.

"Giroud wanted a hat-trick, yes, but I had an opportunity to give young players an opportunity - like Chuba Akpom.

"I like Gabriel's performance, it was focused and determined. He played a little bit with the hand-brake on offensively."

    BBC Radio 5 live

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka on 606: "The first-half was disappointing as we made mistakes. We can't come to play against Arsenal and make mistakes like we did from the corner. We are disappointed in the first half but in the second half we were better.

"We didn't play in the way we wanted to play. You could see two or three minutes into the game we were not playing with our usual intensity.

"Maybe it is a wake up call. We were really hoping we could beat Arsenal in the way we beat Manchester City.

"Now we have to work hard to play here next season."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, speaking to BBC Sport: "We started well with a good pace and we controlled the game well with our movement and technical quality. We had good team focus overall, we maybe lost our cohesion a little bit at 2-0 but I am happy. Overall we were serious and focused over the whole game.

"We had a good day but Middlesbrough are a good side, it was important for us not to let them come back to 2-1 because they are good technically and are organised, they are a good team.

"Olivier Giroud was very sharp. He has improved a lot compared to the player he was when we he arrived here. He is mobile, technically good, and he works with great focus in training. He has become a top player.

"Gabriel Paulista made a great recovery tackle in the box. He wants to defend, he has good urgency levels and a good physique and technical qualities. He is short language-wise but the intelligent players compensate with vision. He looks at what his partners are doing, and he did that well."

Embarrassing stuff. A report's phone goes off in Arsene Wenger's news conference, right under Wenger's nose, and the ringtone is a shocker.

Unlike Roy Keane or Sean Dyche, Wenger just laughs it off.

  6. Player reactionpublished at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Bradford goalscorer Jon Stead on 606: "In some respects it was bigger [than beating Chelsea]. There was a little bit of expectation for us to win today.

"The second goal was key. If anything it made it quite a comfortable win for us and it's strange to say that.

"Now we will look forward to the draw to see who we will knockout in the next round."

More from Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is difficult to play against Arsenal and if you concede goals at set pieces and if you make mistakes it is more difficult.

"The way I like to play is to fight but in the first half we did not play in the way I like, we did not fight in the same way we did against Manchester City and Liverpool. Now we have to think about Birmingham. The league is our objective now."

Jamie Kevin Devine:, external Oh how other so called 'top teams' wish they could win an FA Cup tie as comfortably as Arsenal. Clear favourites now, surely.

Francinee:, external Looking at the teams left, I wouldn't mind two all Premier League ties in the next round. It would be nice to see a lower league side get to Wembley.

  10. Manager reactionpublished at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka, speaking to BT Sport: "Against Manchester City we won all the 50-50 balls, we were more concentrated and organised. Today the first half especially was bad. We had to play more aggressively, especially in the first half but we keep going now.

"What did I say at half-time? I'm a friend of you but I cannot say (laughs). I had a lot of things to say. To play with more organisation, more concentration. If we play the way we did against a team like Arsenal, we could have conceded five, six, or seven goals. We knew we had to improve our intensity but the second half was better."

    Former Scotland international Pat Nevin
at The Emirates for BBC Radio 5 live

"It was never in doubt after the first goal, Arsenal were playing within themselves. Cazorla in attack, Flamini holding things together. We will hold our judgement on Gabriel for a little while longer.

"Boro now have other things to focus on in getting promoted, and if they do they will have to do a little bit better.

"I think Boro will be a wee bit disappointed with themselves. I really do believe that they are a very good side, but they haven't really had a go at it (until too late). When they have let themselves go, particularly in the wide areas, they have looked good."

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Arsenal, the FA Cup holders, are through to the quarter finals. Two goals in as many minutes from Olivier Giroud the difference in the end. In truth, Arsenal were a class above on the day and could and should have won by more.

So close! Boro almost back in with a sniff as Kike heads against the post from close range! It was a great chance. There's no way the game should even be in sight for the visitors but that was a great chance.

Matty Hernandez:, external Hats off to Boro, still making it difficult. Proving that they are worthy top three opposition from the Championship.
