"If the referee is consistent then Jack Colback has got to go. He has already got a yellow card and that challenge deserved another."

Jack Colback is a lucky boy. He's on a yellow card and hacks down Victor Moses but escapes punishment. Looked a booking to me, and with referee Kevin Friend dishing out cards like confetti...

Is this game beginning to open up? Newcastle almost pay the price for defensive hesitancy when Victor Moses wins the ball out wide and cuts it across, but it's too close to Asmir Begovic.

There's more intensity about Stoke now as they push up and pin Newcastle back into their own half. John Carver reacts by sending on Papiss Cisse for Vurnon Anita. A striker for a midfielder. Nice.

Former Newcastle & Stoke defender Andy Griffin
BBC Radio Stoke at St James' Park

"This game really is very, very scrappy. It's just all stop-start. There are lots of petty fouls and free-kicks. But a point would be a decent result for Stoke, they may well have taken that before the game started."

There are groans in the crowd as two promising Newcastle situations break down when the ball is given away. Once each side gets into the final third, they lose all class and composure.

Is it just me, or is there a lot of mis-placed passes in this game? There seems to be more than the usual. Very poor fayre. Still no shot on goal in the second half from either side.

One interesting footnote is that Stoke's possession stats just touched 61%, which would eclipse their highest ever total achieved in a Premier League away game. Back to the action, Remy Cabella and Ayoze Perez link up well but the chance breaks down when the latter loses track of the ball.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

Stoke are forced into a defensive reshuffle when Mark Wilson gets hurt in a challenge and immediately signals that he needs to come off. A pulled calf muscle possibly. Geoff Cameron is his replacement.

There's no sign of this one improving as Phil Bardsley plays the ball down the line, but slices it out of play. Don't worry, Man Utd and West Ham kick off in an hour or so.
