"Stewart Downing has had a big influence on West Ham's good form this season but so has the athleticism of the new signings Sam Allardyce has added. Andy Carroll is not leading the line today but in Diafra Sakho they have found a goalscorer and he and Enner Valencia up front will really test the Manchester United defence this afternoon."

West Ham's hopes of keeping on-loan midfielder Alex Song have been boosted after he revealed that his children don't want him to move again.

"They are more than happy," he said of his children's mood at returning to England.

"My boys were saying yesterday "Daddy I don't to leave here any more, you have to stay." They love London.

"They are very happy here and for my family, the most important thing is happiness, all they want me to do is perform to make them happy.

"The thing that hurt me the most was my kids because they were seeing me play every single game, every single week at Arsenal.

"Then when I left my boys one day were coming to me going, 'Daddy why aren't you playing? Is it because the manager doesn't like you?' It was hard for me to explain to them that it isn't easy at Barcelona."

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports: "We're back to the start of the season when we had Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho up front. Andy Carroll has done really well since he came back but he is injured for this one. For me it's about containing the quality of Manchester United's front line. They don't need too many chances to score goals. They can get a goal out of nothing. Today is a big challenge for us."
