Darren Fletcher captains West Brom on his debut for the club today - has anyone else done that?

Christopher Harper: Johnnie Jackson was made captain for his first game at Charlton.

Joey Winson on Sport: Robin van der Laan at Derby v his old club Port Vale, we got promoted that season (1995-96). A real swashbuckling footballer. Legend.

Kieran Trippier is a good player, as Richard Sneekes points out. The right-back came through the ranks at Manchester City and Sven-Goran Eriksson was a big fan when he was in charge of the club. Another example of a young English player doing well when given the opportunity.

"West Brom have got to get something out of this game. In the first half you couldn't see where they were going to get a goal from, but now having got the goal they have got to push on and show a lot more energy. Burnley have shown some real quality, and I've been particularly impressed by Kieran Trippier."

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

A couple of half-time subs to tell you about... Michael Kightly replaces the injured Dean Marney for Burnley while, more interestingly, West Brom bring on striker Brown Ideye for defender Chris Baird.

Some more news on Charlie Austin... QPR say the striker has a bruised foot and will miss just one game. Not as bad as first feared then.

Discussing Sunderland's new signing Jermain Defoe.

BBC Sport pundit John Hartson: "Jermain Defoe was a brilliant signing. He is a goal scoring machine. He lives for goals and bring you goals. Credit to Sunderland for spending the money to buy him. He could be the difference between them staying up or going down.

BBC Sport commentator Simon Brotherton: "He has got up and running very quickly. He has two goals already. It is a massive financial commitment they have made and if they stay up it will be worth it."

When it comes to mid-table contests, it doesn't get much more mid-table than 10th-placed Stoke visiting Newcastle, who are 11th.

Magpies head coach John Carver notched his first win in charge of the club last week with victory over Hull. How did he celebrate? "I actually went home and had a cup of tea and chip butty," he said.

  11. The problems at QPRpublished at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

    MOTD2 Extra

Discussing QPR's battle to avoid relegation and their search for a new manager after the departure of Harry Redknapp.

BBC Sport pundit John Hartson: "No away wins for QPR - and a tough game at Sunderland in midweek - you just wonder where the next points are coming from. Harry Redknapp is not a quitter. I thought keeping them up was his biggest challenge - and I think it is very strange that he has been allowed to leave the club. He has brought in the majority of the players. It does not add up at QPR."

BBC Sport commentator Simon Brotherton: "The clock is ticking for QPR this season - five defeats in a row and an injury for striker Charlie Austin. They need to get a manager in pronto. Tim Sherwood may be a good man to get in there."

Football writer Amy Lawrence: "QPR's form seems cemented - they need someone to come in and grab them and inspire them. It feels like you are bringing someone into such a difficult situation."

Jon Ferguson: One of the worst 45 minutes of football I've ever seen WBA play. Can we have a February transfer window too please?

Alex Haworth: Burnley went to sleep at that corner. Can't do that if you're going to avoid relegation.

Some breaking news to bring you... West Ham have terminated the contract of 22-year-old midfielder Ravel Morrison. What do you make of that, Hammers fans? Wasn't he being touted for the England squad at one point?

  14. Postpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

Former West Brom midfielder Richard Sneekes
BBC Radio West Midlands at Turf Moor

"Burnley had been keeping the ball well and have looked dangerous on both flanks. Did West Brom deserve their goal? Probably not, but now Tony Pulis has something to build on at half-time. In the second half the away side have to show a lot more energy and guile in what they do."

  15. Can Leicester beat the drop?published at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

    MOTD2 Extra

Discussing Leicester City's prospects of avoiding relegation following the team's defeat by Crystal Palace on Saturday.

BBC Sport pundit John Hartson: "Leicester have just paid £9m for Andrej Kramaric and they need to play him. They look at little bit fragile at the back. Their general play is very good so with them it is about scoring goals."

BBC Sport commentator Simon Brotherton: "The times that I have seen them they have been in the game. They have not been thrashed."

Football writer Amy Lawrence: "Compared to QPR's options in attack, I'd rather be in Leicester's position with their options and they will be just hoping one of them comes into a bit of form."

Former West Brom midfielder Richard Sneekes
BBC Radio West Midlands at Turf Moor

"A great header at the back post. 2-0 is a very dangerous scoreline and this will give West Brom something to build on at half-time. Tony Pulis will give them a good talking to, and if they go and take a few more risks in the second half they might be able to salvage something from this game."

West Brom have got a lifeline. They half the arrears on the stroke of half-time when Chris Brunt heads a corner home. It wasn't the cleanest header, nor the prettiest corner, but the Baggies won't mind. They are back in the game.

  20. Postpublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

Former West Brom midfielder Richard Sneekes
BBC Radio West Midlands at Turf Moor

"Burnley have got some really good attacking players, every time they get the ball wide they have an opportunity to score. West Brom are on thin ice at the moment. They are two goals down and are not even pressing. It all looks very lethargic, and they can't keep the ball."
