West Brom are finally growing into the game as they ping the ball about nicely and try to utilise the wide areas. Callum McManaman and Chris Brunt are looking a bit more influential and stopping Burnley's full-backs from pressing forward.

"Saido Berahino is on for Victor Anichebe, who was holding his hamstring. Disappointing for the lad. But then again so far there has been no conviction from West Brom. Whenever they get the ball they have been straight away looking to play it up to Anichebe, and when Burnley are in possession they are not tracking back enough to help defend the channels. Surely the gameplan will now change."

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 12:18 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

Saido Berahino is on! Tony Pulis's cold shoulder lasts just 17 minutes as Victor Anichebe pulls up injured and is replaced by the young hitman.

English strikers are becoming quite fashionable aren't they? We've got Danny Ings and Saido Berahino involved today, while Harry Kane and Charlie Austin are banging them in for fun too. Is Roy Hodgson blessed with striking talent now? It reminds me of the days when players like Les Ferdinand, Stan Collymore, Robbie Fowler and Andrew Cole offered excellent back-up to Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham.

Darren Fletcher captains West Brom on his debut for the club today - has anyone else done that?

Olivier, Oxford: Joey Barton was handed the captain's armband on his debut for QPR. The team they played against that day? Newcastle.

Christian Scandurra, Bristol: I'm pretty sure Roger Johnson was made captain on his Wolves debut. Let's hope this works just as well for the Baggies.

Yao Kuasi: Rio for QPR. What a transfer that has seemed to be.

West Brom have barely crossed the halfway line yet. They cannot seem to get a foothold in midfield and are inviting constant pressure from the hosts. Tony Pulis must be steaming underneath that cap of his.

"It has been coming. Burnley have played the better balls in to the front men. It is so foggy it is hard to see what happened, but it was a simple header from Ashley Barnes after Danny Ings' flick. Why have West Brom been sitting off so much though?"

Burnley have the goal their early play deserves, and there's nothing Ben Foster can do about this one.

Danny Ings is the creator as he dinks a ball in from the left of the penalty area and Ashley Barnes beats Joleon Lescott to the ball and heads home from six yards out. Turf Moor erupts. I did tell you Barnes was under-rated...

"Unbelievable save from Ben Foster. That is why he is one of the best 'keepers in the country. West Brom have sat off far too much though. They need to go and let Burnley know they are in a game. The home side have got in a couple of times already."

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

How has he kept that out? West Brom's Ben Foster produces a save right from the top drawer to deflect Scott Arfield's stinging 12-yard shot onto the woodwork and away from danger. Burnley thought they had gone 1-0 up there.

"Burnley have already tried to play three or four balls in behind the West Brom full-backs because they know they are not the quickest. For West Brom, so far Victor Anichebe has looked isolated up front. You can only guess what Chris Brunt makes of Darren Fletcher coming in as captain. Brunt has had a lot of criticism over the last couple of years, and maybe he thought it would give him time to concentrate on his own game."

Is Tony Pulis right to drop Saido Berahino today? The West Brom manager appears to be trying to clip the youngster's wings a little - I think it was particularly pertinent that he felt obliged to tell the media that he'd not had a single phone call enquiring about the young striker.

It's a misty, damp, cold day in Burnley. Just how they like it in east Lancashire. Burnley are doing all the early attacking, with Ashley Barnes looking a threat down the left. Barnes is a good player, possibly under-rated.

Former West Brom midfielder Richard Sneekes
BBC Radio West Midlands at Turf Moor

"Burnley are hard working but within that there are some real quality players as well. West Brom are sitting back waiting for Burnley to cross the half-way line and that is when they will go and press. They will try and stay nice and solid as a unit to keep the home side at bay."

Roy Keane, the assistant coach of Republic of Ireland is in the stands watching on. That means Tom Cleverley is probably safe to answer the front door today.

  18. Postpublished at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

Nice stuff from Burnley early on, with George Boyd and Danny Ings linking up well and the latter lashes a shot over the bar while off balance.

Nick, Burnley: I can't help but feel this game is going to make or break us and after the reverse fixture last year it's not a good feeling.

Andy, Wrexham: Paul Ince was given the armband on his Liverpool debut (see 11:56). In hindsight, I wish he had never joined at all.
