"Ander Herrera has come to the fore. This is better from Manchester United and what we expected from the off. There was a reaction to falling behind but they have to dominate these games from the start. It's taken them to go a goal down before they have woken up."

There are plenty mocking Manchester United fans for their exuberant celebrations at 'only Preston' but don't forget the FA Cup is their only chance of a trophy this season. It matters.

Preston have the prize of promotion to go for too but they've not given up on this one, substitute Kyel Reid wide from the edge of the box. Good strike.

We are 13 minutes away from a Manchester United v Arsenal quarter-final. Or a famous Preston result.

Marouane Fellaini goes close to a third, bouncing out of a tackle to get a shot away but it's well blocked on the six-yard line.

Can Preston find one more chance?

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:18 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2015

Preston boss Simon Grayson makes three changes all at once. On come Callum Robinson. Scott Wiseman and Kyel Reid. Fresh legs, but Preston need a miraculous response from here. United a different team since Ashley Young's introduction. There's a sentence I didn't expect to write this season.

    Chris Waddle
Former Tottenham and Newcastle winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"That should be enough for Manchester United. And yet again they got joy again by going down the by-line. Preston will need to come out and chase the game now but they are looking very tired now. Simon Grayson needs to make those changes as quickly as possible."

"You cannot take it away from Fellaini, he wanted the ball more than anyone else. We talked about personality and character and who would be that person and you have to say Fellaini has plenty of it."

That's burst the Deepdale balloon. United lead after good play from Antonio Valencia on the right, his cross is met by Marouane Fellaini. A powerful header parried back out by Thorsten Stuckmann and the Belgian is able to toe-poke the rebound into the roof of the net. Predatory.

"That's a very lucky escape for Kevin Davies. Maybe that will see him get substituted now. There are some tired legs out there now in the Preston team."

Kevin Davies is a lucky man! He's on a yellow card and trips Chris Smalling, that's a stonewall booking any day of the week but referee Phil Dowd lets him off.

James Forster:, external Rooney a mile offside. How can he not be interfering with play in that position?

Darren Stock:, external Is that offside? Had to move out the way in an offside position but keepers expecting him to connect surely?

John K:, external Rooney not interfering with play? To be fair, he hasn't interfered with play the entire game.

The United fans are winning the singing battle for the first time all night, Deepdale is hushed with worry as the visitors win a free-kick out wide. Preston clear. A key few minutes coming up as the men in red are playing at a far higher tempo now.

"I think they are complaining because Rooney was in the path of the goalkeeper but if he did not touch it, it does not matter. Louis van Gaal has got the reaction he needed. I have sympathy with the Preston keeper, but the rules are, if you do not touch the ball it is OK. For me, he is interfering though."

"Preston are trying to claim offside, but I don't think it is. The changes have helped with the width that Ashley Young has given them - they look a much better side now."

United level! They've looked a much better side since Ashley Young came on, and he makes the goal by finding Ander Herrera in the area. Herrera squeezes a shot off, Wayne Rooney is offside and standing right in front of Preston keeper Thorsten Stuckmann.

Great awareness from Rooney to stand still and let the ball go past him without a touch, and the shot goes in off the base of the post. Was he interfering with play though? Stuckmann thinks so but the goal stands.

Radamel Falcao has scored four goals for Manchester United. Four.

That's just not good enough is it?

Marouane Fellaini almost gets a shot away but Paul Huntington makes a wonderful sliding block.
