Moments later another Saints attack and it's pin-ball inside the Chelsea area. The hosts just about manage to clear.

    Sadio Mane is brought down by Nemanja Matic. The referee points to the spot. Replays show that Matic did get some of the ball, more difficult to tell is whether he fouled the player first.

    Great response from Southampton. Dusan Tadic's pull-back allows Sadio Mane a clear chance but Thibaut Courtois produces a one-handed save to keep it out. Tadic pounces on the rebound and curls his effort narrowly wide.

    Perfect start for Chelsea. Perfect response after their midweek European demise. Diego Costa starts and finishes a fine move which sees Branislav Ivanovic deliver a deep cross for the striker to head home from six-yards. Southampton's defence were guilty of ball-watching.
