Mr Zak Allen: Glad to see Delph in the starting line-up. Perhaps the only reason he has not been included sooner is because he's at Villa.

Samuel Ball: Eng 1-0 up after 15 mins, I'm already bored out my mind. Hodgson's teams lack flair and passion they are too defensive minded.

BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

"This result already appears to be heading only one way as England establish an early lead - so now even greater attention is on whether captain Wayne Rooney can close in on Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time record for his country. Two to go and plenty of time to add.

"Lithuania's fans are not giving this away though. Very noisy."

The game just slowing down now after an intense start. There have been some turgid games at Wembley in recent years, let's hope this one picks up again.

Lithuania have a very ambitious penalty appeal waved away, they wanted handball against Michael Carrick, but the ball hit his thigh.

lfcway: The way England started this game, Rooney might break the record tonight!

Cephas O Omaku: Going for two more Rooney goals tonight anyone? I'll wager much more on that.

Wayne Rooney leading from the front, directing traffic like a policeman at an intersection. He looks happier up top, but he does a fine job in midfield too. Will he move back in the twilight of his career?

Matthew Brown: Anyone who says Wayne Rooney is not a striker should give up football. Cracking poacher's goal there.

Chris Baldwin: Got a feeling the Lithuanian keeper could be busy tonight. This could be a good one for goal difference.

    Paul Thompson: Harry who?

Danny Welbeck gives the ball away this time as an England attack peters out. He then does more good work down the left and wants a penalty as he goes down under a challenge from Georgas Freidgeimas. Good tackle.

The perfect start for England and a spanner in the minnows' gameplan. Sit back and contain is all well and good until you concede in the first few minutes.

Well that didn't take long. Wayne Rooney has 47 England goals. Danny Welbeck does well with a surging run down the right, his shot is straight at Giedrius Arlauskis who parries it out and Rooney is there to head home from six yards.

Sir Bobby Charlton has 49, Gary Lineker 48.

Chance! Wayne Rooney should be one goal closer to that record as he runs in on goal, Fabian Delph played him in, he's one-on-one and hits the base of the post from 12 yards.

Great chance, but that's got the crowd going.
