"Definitely a 4-3-3 as expected, with Michael Carrick sitting deeper than Fabian Delph.

"I just want England to start positively and kill the game off early. Do that, then you can take your foot off the gas later in the game."

Danny Welbeck starts wide on the left, Raheem Sterling on the right with Wayne Rooney through the middle. That's the system Roy Hodgson didn't want to change, and you wouldn't play Harry Kane out wide. Move Rooney to the left?

A friend of mine once said about eight or nine years ago that Lee Cattermole was the answer for England. He was ahead of his time...

Peter from Darlington: Lee Cattermole - protecting our back 6 against Italy!

Aran, in London: I think Carl Jenkinson has been miles better than Kyle Walker this season! Also, Southampton have the meanest defence in the Prem. Stick Bertrand alongside Nathaniel Clyne. Would not mind seeing Charlie Austin and Saido Berahino, too.

The fans behind the goal at Wembley raise a mural in the shape of the England flag as the anthems ring out. All set? Here we go.

  8. 'We have a system in place'published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 27 March 2015

England manager Roy Hodgson tells ITV Sport: "We're happy with Harry Kane and his time will come. We have a system in place and a group of players that have done very well for us so there's no reason for us to change that.

"But Harry Kane will get his chance in the next two games as he has been impressive.

"Michael Carrick is the ideal replacement for Jack Wilshere who did a fantastic job for us in the autumn games. Michael is a very similar player and it's good to see him back.

"We expect a good challenge from Lithuania. All teams that come here, it's an inspiration for them. They will be defensive and we will have to break them down."

An interesting point raised by Chris Waddle there. Comparing players from different eras is always an absolute minefield. How many goals would Jimmy Greaves get if he was playing now?

How many would Harry Kane get against 1950s goalkeeping...?

    Chris Waddle
BBC Radio 5 live at Wembley

On Wayne Rooney being three goals short of becoming England's record goalscorer: "We've had a shortage of strikers for a long, long time.

"If Wayne had been around when Gary Lineker, Peter Beardsley and Alan Shearer were around, would he have scored as many?"

Sara Taylor: I'm glad Kane isn't starting. The hyperbole around him is already at sickening levels. His time will come, give it time! Plus, you can't play him without moving Rooney out wide or playing two up top, neither of which would actually help the whole side. We've been doing well with 4-3-3, leave it be.

Steve Argent: I really think Kane should be playing, this is Lithuania in a qualifier at home, a perfect opportunity to get his international career started, rather than wait for the full tournament and be throwing him on with 15 minutes to go in games against much better sides when we're behind (seems to be what every England manager does with the younger players).

Roy Hodgson repeats his line that 'Harry Kane's time will come' but also interestingly says that he has a system in place and he doesn't see any reason to change it.

Does that suggest that Roy doesn't see a place for Kane and Rooney in the same team?

Tim in Marlow: Playing Harry Kane from the start would have been the big dog move - so clearly no England manager would have picked him in a million years. Way too conservative for our own good!

Ben in Manchester: Welbeck has done nothing to deserve being dropped, his record for England is excellent.

Phil in Melksham: We won't win anything with safe Roy in charge, we will qualify but my nan could qualify against our group opponents ! Roy is a bad joke.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Wembley

"Great reception from England's fans inside Wembley as the name of Harry Kane appears on the big screens. Lots of anticipation about Tottenham's in-form striker making his debut but manager Roy Hodgson very happy to hand striking duties to captain Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck from the kick-off."

  19. Carrick the key?published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 27 March 2015

Tonight is another chance for Michael Carrick to shine on the international stage. The 33-year-old midfielder has arguably been underused throughout his career.

This will be his 32nd cap, despite making his debut 14 years ago. Danny Welbeck - 24 years old - has one more.
