Kieran Trippier can deliver a ball, and the Burnley right-back serves up an inviting free-kick from wide, Sam Vokes beats his marker to the ball but can't keep it down.

Vokes scored 22 goals last season to help the Clarets into the top flight before he had a serious injury. He's managed just one since his return on Boxing Day - but that was against Tottenham.

Now then, promise here as Tottenham turn the ball over in midfield and break with purpose. Christian Eriksen surges inside and finds Kyle Walker on his right. Should he shoot or cross? He doesn't know and does neither, stopping the ball dead and halting play altogether. Eventually he passes to Ryan Mason, who had run offside.

"You look at Tottenham and you think they are a mid-table team but they are going for a Champions League place. It has a testimonial feel to it. They are low gear and passing for the sake of passing."

Ian Marks: Really big fan of how Burnley are playing, Spurs can take a few lessons on proper football here!!

Jack Beecroft: Burnley are by far the better side, play with at a high tempo on and off the ball.

Jon Evans: Need a Spurs and Newcastle win today as a villa fan. Hoping for a couple of thrashings. 4 or 5-0 would be nice!

Well this is dull. Anyone get any good chocolate today? An egg-free BBC Football desk this afternoon I'm afraid to report. Shocking.

Ryan Mason drags a shot wide from 25 yards. Maybe every Premier League midfielder saw Charlie Adam's goal and resolved to 'have more speculative efforts'.

  6. CLOSE!published at 13:52 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

Burnley work a nice free-kick, Ashley Barnes spins away to get free at the far post and crashes a volley back into the goalmouth. Sam Vokes stoops to meet it but good defending from Eric Dier prevents him from making a telling connection.

A goal, a goal, my kingdom for a goal. This game is in dire need of one.

Van Gaal: Spurs need a new right back this summer or start getting DeAndre Yedlin ready otherwise they'll always be defensively weak.

Ash Williams: Ryan Mason is a younger but just as useless version of Joe Allen.

Tom Holmes: Lot of nonsense being spoken. This is a very good Spurs side and they should win comfortably. Exquisite front three.

Right-back to right-back, and Kyle Walker does well defensively at the back post to head away Kieran Trippier's deep cross. This is a slow burner of a game.

"Burnley will be quite happy at the moment because all that Tottenham are doing is in front of them, As a back four, you are happy with that. It is when you get in behind that there are problems but Spurs are happy to stroke the ball around at the moment."

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 13:46 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

Good save! Nacer Chadli hits one horrible shot at Tom Heaton, a real bobbler, but moments later he hits an altogether sweeter effort after cutting in from the left, Heaton has to move his feet and make a strong one-handed save. Spurs beginning to look dangerous now.

Nabil Bentaleb goes in high on Ashley Barnes and he's lucky not to be booked. Someone needs to get hold of this game, it's passing us by.

Paul F, London: This Spurs starting XI is dreadful and would likely be relegated if played week in week out. Golden opportunity for Burnley.

    Would they though Paul? Really?

Harry Kane is the youngest player to captain a Premier League side this season - but he's only had four touches in the opening 10 minutes. Scrappy opening, Clarets on top so far.

Will Burnley get many more better chances in this game? Could be a costly miss from their top scorer.

  15. CLOSE!published at 13:36 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

Massive chance for the hosts! Ryan Mason loses his footing and gives the ball away in a dangerous area, Danny Ings is clean in on goal but can only scoop a shot right at Michel Vorm in the Spurs goal.

    He has to do better!

  16. Postpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

With Christian Eriksen tucking in on the right Kyle Walker is asked to provide the width for Spurs but - stop me if you've heard this one before - his first cross is poor and straight at the first defender. Pace to burn, but he must deliver more telling balls surely?

  17. Postpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

Spurs' first attack is neat and patient but it comes to an end when Nacer Chadli loses his footing on the left wing. Paulinho playing central, Chadli on the left and Christian Eriksen out on the right, during these early stages anyway. A waste?

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

Burnley get us under way at a scorching Turf Moor.

  19. Postpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 5 April 2015

Here they come! A win for Burnley and they are out of the bottom three. That is massive motivation.
