Jose Mourinho may spending the coming weeks getting some practice in on how to hold novelty oversized champagne bottles as Chelsea stroll towards the title, but tonight's game showed the Premier League still has plenty of excitement to serve up.

The battle to stay in the top flight is heating up, but who will keep their cool, and how many gilets will be damaged in the process?

Only time will tell but for now, that is all from us. Cheerio.

Stuart in Cheshire: Hull, Leicester and QPR to go down. 2-2 on final day keeps villa and Burnley up!

Jack McLeod: All the teams below Newcastle are playing better than Newcastle. Squeaky bum time to be a Toon fan. We are in that battle now.

Kieran Patrickson: England need to look to the future. Kane and Austin is that future. When will performance come ahead of a players name?

Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce: "I'm thinking who did that point benefit most and I think Sunderland will be the most pleased.

"The one team that didn't gain out of it was probably Hull City.

"I think they are the one team not playing tonight who will have seen that as their worst possible result."

Here is how the table looks after that result.

Not much has changed except just three points seperate five of the bottom six and with Leicester having at least a game in hand on the five above them, it could be about to get even more interesting.

Tim Sherwood is clearly getting a bit miffed at any gillet-related chat.

In answer to a question about why he threw his down in the first half, he responded: "It wasn't a gillet it was a coat.

"I am very passionate. If anyone feels it more than me, they must be hurting."

    Classic Sherwood-ism.

  6. Manager reactionpublished at 22:06 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood: "It is disappointing. QPR took their chances at the right times. We are not equipped unfortunately to go anywhere and dig out a result, we have to play open. We have good footballers who entertain the crowd.

"Christian Benteke was very good, the second goal especially was excellent. We need him between now and the end of the season but it was disappointing to give away scruffy goals.

"They seemed to be quite happy with it. The spirit is there, the fans were magnificent again and the players gave them a performance. I could not fault it. We were fatigued in the second half and dropped off a bit but you would expect that. We have an injury crisis and we are having to patch up. QPR took every chance they had and that is the way it is going for us at the moment.

"It might be a very important point, only time will tell but we need to win games. It is a point in the right direction, though."

Matt in London: As it stands, the bottom four play each other on the final day. If those two matches are anything like tonight's game then we are in for one hell of a relegation finale...

Nick Harris: Can't be too greedy going 3-2 down but that game should have been in the bag at half time. Gutted.

Sammiiee: Either QPR or Burnley will stay up, Hull city won't be able to beat the drop.

QPR boss Chris Ramsey: "In the first half we got overrun a bit, we caused our own problems our technique was poor, they had a lot chances and we rode our luck. But we were fantastic in the second half and the travelling fans had something to cheer about.

"[Assistant coach] Kevin Bond was in my ear so I cannot take full credit for the changes just after half-time. Between us we decided who was coming off but formations, what are they? It is just about players closing the others down.

"The goals we gave away were schoolboy errors. The point was better for them, we would have loved to have won the game and been above the line. Based on the performance in the second half we are disappointed we have not got three points."

Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce: "Villa are a team that can win games but defensively they are frail.

"I think Rangers, with the points deficit they've got, will still find it difficult to get out of the problems they are in.

"But four points from two away games - they will be delighted with that."

London rivals Charlton and Fulham share the points from a 1-1 draw which means Fulham go above Rotherham and are now eight points clear of the drop.

And it's the same scoreline at Bloomfield Road where Blackpool have drawn 1-1 with Reading.

The Royals are 10 points above the relegation places, while relegated Blackpool are unbeaten in three games.

No coupon busters in League One with three home wins and promotion hopes intact for Bristol City, MK Dons and Sheffield United.

However, City's 3-0 win over Swindon damages Swindon's hopes of automatic promotion.

MK Dons did the damage early on with two goals in the opening five minutes from Will Grigg to beat struggling Scunthorpe, who are just a point above the drop zone, 2-0.

Sheffield United came from behind to beat neighbours Doncaster 3-2 to open up an eight-point cushion in their push for a play-off place while Donny are now struggling to make the top six.

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, who made his first league start: "It was always going to be a tough game, a proper scrappy game. One point is better than none though.

"It was good but I just tried to see it as any other game. I have played football all my life but it was good to get my first start for Aston Villa."

QPR striker Charlie Austin: "Yeah it will have been a good game for the neutral. We are disappointed not to come away with three points. We worked as hard as we could but Christian Benteke had put one over the wall and in off the post and there is not much you can do.

"The table does not lie but we have a big game coming up against Chelsea and we take our second-half performance today into that game. We are scoring goals we are home and it a derby, we are looking forward to it."

  14. Player reactionpublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

QPR defender Clint Hill: "It was a heck of a game to watch I suppose. We were disappointed with the first half but going up 3-2 with five minutes to go you think you have the three points but they go up and score from the free-kick.

"The positive is we got a point at a difficult place to go and we have dragged teams into the relegation fight.

"I'm glad to have got my first Premier League goal, it has been bugging me for years, I am 37-year-old."

Rakesh Pradhan: All the star names at the top of the Premier League but game of the season served up by the strugglers at the bottom.

Rich Lang: Looking very likely that we'll be going into the last weekend of the season with all three relegation places to be decided!

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke: "Of course we wanted more than a point. It is always nice to get a hat-trick but it is shame we didn't get the three points. I think we deserved three points - we were better than them.

"We know it is a hard situation and that every point is crucial. We have just got to keep fighting."

Christian Benteke has scored a hat-trick but he looks like he has lost a cup final. He squats down on the pitch, staring dead ahead, absolutely exhausted and no doubt frustrated that Aston Villa only have a point after a draining 90 minutes.
