No late drama before the break in League One with leaders Bristol City still 1-0 up against Swindon, who have the woodwork, and MK Dons yet to add to their early 2-0 lead against Scunthorpe.

The South Yorkshire derby between Sheffield United and Doncaster is still locked at 1-1.

  2. Busy Bentekepublished at 20:44 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

In contrast, Christian Benteke has put in a right old shift. Scoring twice but also dropping back and helping in midfield when needed. The best player on the pitch so far in this game.

Charlie Austin finished that half without having once got inside the Aston Villa area. His strike partner, Bobby Zamora, popped up in there twice, providing the cross for Matt Phillips's opener, but he has not been involved anywhere near as much as QPR boss Chris Ramsey would have liked, having touched the ball on just six occasions in 45 minutes.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce: "As well as Benteke getting the goals, Agbonlahor has offered legs, pace and power - and he has unsettled the QPR back four. But QPR's front two have been starved of possession.

"I feel that there are still goals in this game. If Aston Villa score the next one, then it is game over. But Villa always make me nervous at the back - if they sorted their defence out they could be in the top half of the league."

Andrew Neill: Both Villa and Palace have shown what you can achieve with a good managerial appointment. NUFC show what not hiring one can do.

Adam Street: Remember what happened in 2012-13? In a similar situation, what happens at home? 6-1 vs Sunderland. Villa have this!!

Stephen Whittle: There are times when Steven caulker plays like Franco Baresi. Tonight he's playing like pasta milanese.

  6. Premier League tablepublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

    Premier League

This is how the table looks as things stand. Three points will move Aston Villa up to 15th, five points clear of the relegation zone. For QPR, it would leave them second from bottom and three points adrift, but having played a game more than those above them.

A big 45 minutes coming up for both teams.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

The players are applauded off the pitch warmly after an entertaining first half. Tim Sherwood strolls into the tunnel, hands in his pockets, minus his gillet. He wanted his players to show their battling qualities and they have arguably done just that.

  8. Football League latestpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Blackpool's supporters are protesting against chairman Karl Oyston but those who have avoided a boycott still see their side lead 1-0 against Reading thanks to Jamie O'Hara's penalty.

The Royals aren't definitely safe yet and neither are Fulham, who have been pegged back at Charlton where Johan Berg Gudmundsson's equaliser has taken the Iceland international into double figures for the season.

Two minutes of added time is shown on the fourth official's board. The break can't come soon enough for QPR, but Aston Villa are probably desperate to just keep going. Great first half from the hosts.

  10. Postpublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

Jack Grealish is definitely not afraid to get stuck in and his drive and enthusiasm is a joy to watch for the home fans, who applaud as he skips past one challenge, tries to keep on his feet after another, but just can't quite manage it.

Aston Villa are looking to put this game out of sight and QPR are doing little to prevent them from doing that as Leandro Bacuna is again given the freedom of the right wing. He grabs the opportunity gleefully, taking his time before sending in a cross for Gabby Agbonlahor, who cushions a header just wide.

  12. Football League latestpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

A big goal at Ashton Gate where leaders Bristol City lead 1-0 in their local derby against Swindon thanks to a 50th career goal from Kieran Agard.

Charlie Austin has 16 goals this season but he looks unlikely to add to that at the moment. QPR need to get him more involved where he can do damage, inside the area, but he has spent all of this game outside the box so far.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce: "What Clint Hill has got to do there is to drive the player one way, onto his weaker foot. Because once you let them cut back on you you're in trouble. Benteke cut back on to his favoured right foot and that allowed him to finish."

Well, it has been coming. QPR's push forward is punished as Aston Villa grab a second on the break. A defensive clearance sends the ball up to halfway and Gabby Agbonlahor and Sandro close in to win possession. The former wins that battle, poking the ball to Christian Benteke but getting clattered by Sandro in the process. Benteke races away, gets the better of Clint Hill and finishes confidently.

Sandro, meanwhile, is booked for that crunching challenge.

Aston Villa have some defending to do as QPR enjoy a spell of pressure. Charlie Austin crosses from the right, it is far too deep but the visitors retain possession as Mauricio Isla again sends the ball into the area, but this time it is too close to Brad Guzan in the Villa goal.

  17. Football League latestpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

The only one of the three games without a goal is the one between leaders Bristol City and fourth-placed Swindon at Ashton Gate.

Third-placed MK Dons still lead Scunthorpe 2-0 thanks to their two early goals from Will Grigg.

It wasn't going to so well for fifth-placed Sheffield United who trailed 1-0 at home to South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers thanks to Kyle Bennett's goal.

But Jose Baxter's penalty after half an hour levels the scores.

  18. Postpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

QPR are again caught short on the flank as Leandro Bacuna gets the better of Niko Kranjcar and crosses for Christian Benteke, whose header is deflected behind for a corner.

BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker: Go on Tim, hurl that gilet!

Jay: Don't know what I'm enjoying more - the match or Sherwood's reactions!

Joseph Williams: It's gonna be long night...good to see Benteke scoring goals again!! Legend.

  20. Postpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2015

This is the first time I have seen Aston Villa for a while and they look a very different side. Fast, confident football and they have two chances in quick succession.

First, Fabian Delph's shot from the edge of the area is deflected wide for a corner, from which Ron Vlaar's stinging volley is blocked by the body of Sandro, the sort of block that can prevent relegation, says Stuart Pearce on 5 live.
