Cristiano Ronaldo shoots - and kicks the turf. Ah that hurts when you do that. He hobbles away but he's made of teak and he'll be OK.

"Surely Diego Simeone is not relying on this going to penalties?"
The early second-half optimism from the stands is fading away into nerves. Atletico then take off Antoine Griezmann, which is a strange one. He's looked the most threatening player in a red-and-white shirt.

"The Real Madrid supporters are getting a little edgy in their seats as Atletico's corner count climbs in this second half. There's louder cries of 'Atleti' from the visiting supporters up in the gods of this stadium."
Atletico Madrid stand off Cristiano Ronaldo on the left wing, he delivers a cross with his left foot and Sergio Ramos heads at Jan Oblak. Decent opening.
Atletico then counter and win a corner.
Into the last third, the final sixth of this two-legged tie.
Though, if I'm being honest, we could be on for another hour at least. Extra-time on the cards.

"The last thing Atletico want is an end-to-end game, that's why they are so keen to control the tempo."

"Atletico are almost at walking pace."
Who needs width anyway? Atletico Madrid are playing the 1-8-1 formation. Real Madrid should be doing more out wide against this lot...

"Pepe almost had his shirt ripped off his back there. It's so hard for Real to get a clean header on goal. Atletico are so clever, dogged and determined."
Real force another corner. Toni Kroos whips it in, Pepe has his shirt off his back but it's Raphael Varane behind him who makes contact. He heads it down but the bounce is kind for Jan Oblak to make the save.

"Just when the game looks like it might take light, somebody pours water on it and it fizzles back out."
Speaking of Manchester United rejects, Dimitar Berbatov is on for Monaco as the hosts look for the goal they need.

John Pierce: Do Atletico ever lose their shape? So disciplined, committed. Can't help but wanna root for them.
The longer it stays 0-0, the more dangerous it becomes for Real Madrid. Don't forget the power of an Atletico away goal. At the moment though there's only one team who look like scoring and they wear the famous all white.
Eyobel Gomini: This game has Chicarito's goal written all over it!
Manchester United and England's Wayne Rooney on Twitter: "The referee in the Madrid game has been excellent."
Javier Hernandez has got this crowd going. He missed a good chance but he's buzzing all over the penalty area now, really asking questions of the Atleti defence. He goes down under a challenge from Miranda and he has the away defence worried.

"Sometimes the crowd needs a trigger and they got it with that Hernandez chance. It was a great ball from Isco and it was a warning for Atletico Madrid... they cannot afford to switch off for one second."
