So that's just about it from League One. We said at the start that there would be joy for some, and heartache for others.

Joy for MK Dons, heartache for Crawley, Leyton Orient and Notts County.

    Thanks for joining us.

  2. MK Dons promoted, Preston into play-offspublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

MK Dons, who have only been in existence since 2004, can now prepare for their first-ever season in the Championship.

Karl Robinson could not have asked for a more emphatic performance from his players as they went 4-0 up against bottom side Yeovil Town in the first-half before running out 5-1 winners.

It was a different story for Preston North End who simply could not break down a resilient Colchester defence as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat.

The Lilywhites had not lost since a 2-1 defeat to Crawley at the end of January, as they went on an 18-game unbeaten run. Today was not the day they wanted that run to come to an end, but they were up against a determined Colchester side who did everything they could to stay in League One.

Colchester manager Tony Humes tells Sky Sports: "We said at the outset that it was important we did our job. Once we got the goal, we started looking at where we were. Credit to the players, they got us out of the situation."

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra's Adam Cottier has been commiserating with the Preston fans:

"To be honest, we weren't good enough on the day. Colchester took their chance and it's been the same old North End.

"We often let the fans down and we've dropped too many points, in my opinion, against poor sides this season. It wasn't to be our day again unfortunately."

It's Chesterfield in the play-offs for Preston, while Sheffield United will play Swindon.

  5. Notts County, Crawley and Leyton Orient relegatedpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

What a dramatic second-half of twists and turns in the League One relegation battle but ultimately it is heartbreak for Notts County, Crawley and Leyton Orient.

Notts County led at Gillingham until the 88th minute but three late goals from the hosts condemned them to League Two.

Crawley were also in front against Coventry but James Maddison's last-minute goal saw them fall to defeat.

There was more drama at the County Ground where Leyton Orient were 2-0 up against Swindon, but were eventually pegged back to draw 2-2.

It was a different story for Crewe, Colchester and Coventry who all survive on a frantic last day in League One.

Former Bury and Burnley midfielder Jamie Hoyland on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "I feel really sorry for the fans. Preston can still do it through the play-offs but they owe the manager and the fans something now. They've thrown it away today.

"They've let their supporters, the club and Simon [Grayson] down. He's taken all the pressure off them and when he's needed them today, they've not produced the goods."

Former Bury and Burnley midfielder Jamie Hoyland on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "There should be enough experience on that pitch to not let going a goal down affect them. Some of the players haven't stepped up to the plate when they've needed to, which has been disappointing.

"I've said all along about how they need to grab hold of this situation and I can't see anybody from Preston doing that. There's lads showing body language feeling sorry for themselves. You've just got to go on and keep trying - anything can happen."
