Just moments later and Colchester are almost ahead. Preston goalkeeper Sam Johnstone rushes off his line but Jacob Murphy beats him to the ball and lobs a shot over his head which drifts just wide. Big big chance for the hosts before the half-time whistle blows.

Best chance of the half goes to Preston just before the break. Paul Gallagher floats in a free-kick and Paul Huntington has a free header from just a couple of yards out. But he fails to connect properly and nods it onto the roof of the net. Perhaps Joe Garner was in his way but glorious opportunity for the Lilywhites.

Sheffield United lead Chesterfield 1-0 with a goal from Marc McNulty, Nathan Tyson has put Doncaster 2-0 up against Scunthorpe, and a second goal for Jordy Hiwula brought Walsall level against Bristol City.

And MK Dons are absolutely coasting as Carl Baker's corner is controlled by Dean Lewington, who nods the ball to Darren Potter and the midfielder volleys home from close range.

Will Grigg almost makes it three, just moments after Dean Lewington doubles the Dons' lead. The striker links up with Samir Carruthers but his shot goes narrowly wide of the post. A long way to go but MK Dons looking very comfortable.

Another goal at Vale Park, where Mark Roberts has doubled Fleetwood's lead at Port Vale. And Crewe have gone close to equalising against Bradford, but Lauri Dalla Valle has been denied by a superb goal-saving tackle.

What a start it's been for MK Dons, with early goals from Carl Baker and Dean Lewington putting them in control against Yeovil. They're doing what they need to - can Colchester do them a favour against Preston?

Not much has changed down at the bottom. Crawley, Colchester and Leyton Orient would still go down as things stand. Tony Mowbray, watching his Coventry side level at Crawley, would be safe.

First chance of the match for the home side comes from Richard Brindley. The defender, on loan from Rotherham, drills a shot from outside the box, it takes a big deflection and Sam Johnstone turns it behind for a corner which comes to nothing. Still goalless.

And the MK Dons captain Dean Lewington puts the pressure on Preston as he doubles the hosts' lead with a curling free kick that flies into the top right corner.

Former Bury and Burnley midfielder Jamie Hoyland on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Preston will show their quality. At the moment, the game is fast and frenetic. Colchester are playing with tempo and putting Preston under pressure every time they have the ball. Preston need to be patient and play like they know they can."

Things have petered out in the Buckinghamshire sunshine, with a James Hayter attack neutralised by a Kyle McFadzean tackle, before Will Grigg nods wide for the Dons at the other end.

Quick turnaround at Ashton Gate, where Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has put Bristol City 2-1 up against Walsall from the penalty spot.

Midway through the first-half at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and we're still waiting for the first big chance for either side. Both teams are trying to get the ball down and pass it on a slippery surface, but there is a lot of tension out there. Who's going to make the difference?
