  1. Promotion party in Bristolpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

BBC Sport's Brendon Mitchell at Ashton Gate: "As you'd expect, there's a carnival atmosphere around Ashton Gate as the Bristol City fans prepare themselves for a Sunday afternoon celebration.

"The only question mark that remains after a remarkable season of success for Steve Cotterill's side - will the rain hold off for the trophy presentation?"

A few nerves around ahead of kick-off at 12:15 BST...

Lachlan Keay: I have my maths GCSE's next week so this League One relegation battle is more than enough study...

Admiral Pickles: At MK Dons today hoping for a promotion party. Need Colchester to do us a favour though!

Robert Kempster: Don't forget Bristol Rovers v Forest Green - the Gas go marching on!

Fear not, Robert. We will have reports of both Conference play-off semi-finals later on the BBC Sport website.

MK Dons need a slip-up from Preston today if they are to be promoted to the Championship by virtue of a top-two finish.

Karl Robinson's side start the day a point behind North End and need to better Preston's result at Colchester if they are to go up.

Robinson told BBC's Football Focus: "They have certainly surpassed all the targets I set this summer - we were ripping them up in January.

"They [the players] are just quite remarkable people. I just think it will be something we look back on for many years to come with tremendous fond memories."

  4. 'It's a one-game season'published at 11:51 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

    Simon GraysonImage source, Getty Images

If you're a League One club looking for a manager to take you up to the Championship, Simon Grayson is your man.

The 45-year-old has won promotion from the third tier with all three of his previous clubs - Blackpool, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town - and is on the verge of a fourth with Preston.

"It now all boils down to a one-game season," Grayson told BBC Radio Lancashire ahead of North End's final fixture at Colchester.

"For us to be where we are and what we've done is testament to the players.

"At this stage of the season, to be 18 games unbeaten and to have given ourselves the opportunity to be promoted is fantastic. We're focused and determined to do that."

  5. Preston's play-off woepublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

Preston will be doing all in their power to avoid a 10th play-off campaign this season. You see, their previous nine attempts have not gone well. At all.

North End have never won promotion via the play-offs, and they have twice been beaten in the second-tier play-off final.

David Moyes' side were defeated 3-0 by Bolton in 2001, and they lost 1-0 to West Ham four years later under the management of Billy Davies.

  6. 'This could be MK Dons year'published at 11:47 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

    Will GriggImage source, Getty Images

Luke Ashmead of BBC Three Counties Radio reflects on MK Dons' season...

"Regardless of Sunday's outcome, MK Dons fans have had a truly memorable 2014-15.

"It's been a season for breaking records and thrusting the name of MK Dons onto the global stage, and a 4-0 League Cup victory against Manchester United is perhaps the game all fans will remember.

"But it's been about more than that - a record number of clean sheets, the most goals scored in a season, plus a 7-0 win against Oldham is the club's biggest victory.

"They have also proved their ability to nurture talent and produce elite players. Dele Alli, a product of the academy, is now a Spurs player and the club's bank balance is far healthier for it.

"If Preston keep their stranglehold on second, Karl Robinson's side still have a route to the Championship via the play-offs and you'd be hard pressed to bet against them achieving that, especially on current form.

"After coming close to promotion in previous seasons, this could be their year."

  7. 'Deepdale demands Championship football'published at 11:45 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

Preston North EndImage source, Getty Images

BBC Radio Lancashire's Phil Cunliffe gives us the lowdown on Preston North End...

"Preston have had their wobbles, notably at the turn of the year, but to have amassed 89 points with one game to go is a great achievement.

"Joe Garner has been the star performer with 25 league goals, which is a phenomenal return considering the boyhood North End fan missed 10 weeks because of injury.

"His endeavours have been matched by fellow striker Jermaine Beckford in recent weeks, propelling Preston from play-off certainties to automatic-promotion favourites.

"Signing Daniel Johnson and bringing Callum Robinson back on loan have also proved inspirational.

"As a venue, Deepdale demands Championship football and promotion would end four years of frustration and insecurity."

Seasons don't get much better than this if you're a Bristol City supporter.

A few weeks after winning the Football League Trophy at Wembley, City can enjoy their final fixture of the season this afternoon safe in the knowledge that a second pot - the League One title - is already in the bag.

Earlier this week, BBC Sport's Brendon Mitchell met up with Steve Cotterill - the man that has masterminded the Robins' rise this term - and asked the City boss to spill the beans about how to build a title-winning side.

It's been tough following Bury over the past few years - serious financial problems left them on the brink of folding in 2013.

So no wonder their fans looked so happy yesterday, mobbing Tom Soares at the final whistle, as the midfielder's winning goal at Tranmere earned the Shakers automatic promotion to League One.

Southend lost at Morecambe and must settle for the play-offs, while Plymouth won at Shrewsbury to seal their top-seven spot.

Even a victory wouldn't have been enough for Shrewsbury to win the title. That honour went to Burton, who came from behind to win 3-2 at Cambridge.

  11. Late drama, league titles and conga linespublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

    Eddie HoweImage source, Getty Images

The Championship season came to an end yesterday and, as has been the case throughout this crazy season, there was plenty to talk about.

Bournemouth's 3-0 win at Charlton confirmed Eddie Howe's side as champions, as Watford conceded late to draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Brentford and Ipswich claimed the two remaining play-off spots, with Wolves missing out on goal difference and Derby's late-season collapse completed with a 3-0 home defeat by Reading.

At the bottom, relegated Blackpool's miserable season ended in farce as their home game with Huddersfield was abandoned because of a pitch invasion by protesting Seasiders supporters. Some fans formed conga lines in the centre circle and held up play for more than an hour before the game was called off.

  17. How things stand: Relegationpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

    League One bottom info

At the bottom end of League One, things get a lot more complex. Get your abacus out and concentrate, because this next bit's tricky.

Yeovil Town are already down and three more clubs will follow them into the fourth tier next season.

Crawley Town, Colchester United and Leyton Orient are the three teams most in danger. If they lose their respective matches today, they will be relegated. That's unless Notts County suffer a collapse of Devon Loch-sized proportions, which could save Crawley, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

Notts are level on points with Crawley in 21st, while there's a two-point gap to Crewe Alexandra and Coventry City above them.

I knew that GCSE in Maths would come in handy one day, and I think today may be that day.

  18. How things stand: Play-offspublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

Whichever team fails to finish in the top two will get a second bite of the promotion cherry in the League One play-offs, which have become a bit of a closed shop.

For some time now, Swindon Town and Sheffield United have looked assured of their play-off spots, and Chesterfield will definitely finish alongside them in the top six after an excellent run of form late in the season.

All that's left to be decided today is the semi-final line-up.

  19. How things stand: Promotionpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

    League One Top

Bristol City are champions by some distance, and it's a simple equation for Preston today. If they beat Colchester, they'll join the Robins in the Championship next season.

Anything less, and third-placed MK Dons could overhaul North End on the final day.

Because of their superior goal difference, the Dons - who are at home to bottom club Yeovil this afternoon - will finish second in the table if they better Preston's result.
