Side-by-side in the table and nothing to play for.

West Ham and Everton have had a solid, yet unspectacular season. The Toffees never really got going, while the Hammers hit the heady heights of fourth then slowly slipped down.

Will this be "Big" Sam Allardyce's final home game in charge of West Ham?

His future will be confirmed after the season, with his two-year deal set to run out this summer.

"If you want somebody else to do more than I have done then I think you will have to be calling for Houdini," said the manager of his four years at the club.

Houdini was more of an escapologist than magician. Pedantry to one side, the Hammers could still finish with a Europa League spot via the Fair Play Table. Bad news is that the campaign would start on 2 July, which is silly isn't it?

  7. Pour me one last claretpublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

Relegated Burnley say goodbye to Premier League football at Turf Moor for a while, having had relegation confirmed last week despite victory at Hull.

Manager Sean Dyche only spent £8m on new players over the past year, but had defended the decision to be anti-spendthrift.

"There are clubs in this country which are hundreds of millions in debt," the Burnley boss said.

"This club has decided not to go down that road and it has still been heavily questioned and criticised for not spending enough. That could have ruined the club."

Mark Hughes's Stoke are a giddy ninth.

"I would say that it's been an even better season than last year, given the nature and amount of injuries we've had to contend with," he said possibly to the annoyance of Burnley, QPR, Newcastle, Hu...

  8. Villa all but securepublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

    Tim SherwoodImage source, Getty Images

Tim Sherwood's Villa are closing in on a Premier League and FA Cup double. Survival would be the first part followed by victory over Arsenal at Wembley.

They are four points above the drop zone and a win at the Saints would be enough to fend off the threat of relegation.

Ronald Koeman's Saints have just lost their mojo of late - with three defeats in four. It's not beyond Villa to get the win they need, although the Hampshire side have picked up 10 points from their last four home games.

Will Tim be celebrating tonight with a new jacket and jumper?

  9. Leicester - the fifth best team in Europe's elite*published at 09:42 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

    *In the last seven games.

That's still impressive. Their 18 points means that only Paris Saint-Germain (21), Borussia Monchengladbach, Real Madrid and Barcelona (all 19) have been more impressive over the same amount the matches.

However, the Nigel Pearson's men still remain only three points above the drop zone.

The Black Cats are a point below, but with three games in hand. They have picked up seven crucial points from the last 12, and host the Foxes on the back of a surprise 2-0 win at Everton.

A win for either would mean they can just about count themselves safe.

Now, regulars of the BBC's football live text commentaries know the likes of myself, Tom Rostance and Phil Dawkes appreciate a classic film reference.

For this entry, it's the entire Die Hard collection.

The series begins well then gets progressively worse. They might call it a day or they might make another one, but will it rediscover the magic of the first two (one)?

That's Newcastle's season. Began well and now it's one win in 10 and paddling from the relegation plughole. They might go down, but if they survive will the team get any better?

The Magpies managed a point against West Brom - which could prove to be very precious - and a win at relegated QPR should, should be enough, unless Hull beat Spurs and Manchester United.

"There's a huge job in front of us, starting with Saturday and then the following Sunday [against West Ham], so we need to stay focused," said Newcastle's John "McClane" Carver.

Time to look ahead to today's Premier League matches.

With the Champions League places pretty much sewn up and two of the relegation spots 'taken', we look at what is up for grabs.

Let's start at the bottom and Tottenham v Hull.

Safety is not really in the hands of the 18th place side. They are relying on Newcastle, Sunderland and Leicester to slip up - the latter two play each other today - and for them to possibly have to beat both Spurs and then Manchester United on the final day of the season. They are 5-2 ON favourites to go down.

"There are no more second chances. This is it. We need to take it to the last game of the season," said manager Steve Bruce.

    Will they though?

The Dutch winger, 21, says he wants to be "the best in the world". Don't we all mate, don't we all.

Anyway, Steven Gerrard as a future Reds manager? Remember the Graeme Souness era?

Reports suggest he could be heading to Real Madrid, with United boss Louis van Gaal stating he's already drawn up a list of replacements... just in case.
