The Newcastle pressure cooker
Garth Crooks

"Somehow my instincts say Hull against Man United is better than Newcastle against West Ham. This group of Newcastle players have not coped very well in that pressure cooker atmosphere at St James' Park."

Leicester are staying up
Stuart Pearce
Former England left-back on Final Score
"Their spirit was good and I don't remember too many games where they were annihilated even though they lost. They were very unfortunate against Chelsea, they played extremely well and over the last 12 games they were in championship form. I'd written them off, so credit to Nigel and the players."

Former Leicester striker Emile Heskey: Congratulations to everyone at Leicester. Wonderful end to the season. Onwards and Upwards #foxesneverquit
'This run has been extraordinary'
Sunderland 0-0 Leicester City
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is a little more satisfying to get over the line with your own result. It's been a good old run for us.
"I think the key thing for us even in our darkest moments, and there have been a few, the players have continued to support each each other and believe in their own ability. That's difficult when people are questioning your integrity.
"We've developed as the season has gone on. This run has been extraordinary, but we've needed to do it, because a number of sides have picked up form. We've stuck at our job."
He added on Sky Sports: "There are always going to be doubts about managers. I may have intensified one or two storms, but I work the way I work, and you can either like me or lump me."
'We are nearly there'
Sunderland 0-0 Leicester City
Sunderland head coach Dick Advocaat, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a very exciting match for both teams, with a lot of nerves, but both teams work so hard. We had more opportunities, but I think 0-0 is a good result.
"Leicester are a very difficult team to beat. They've lost one game in eight, we'd lost one in six. We were organised, but we needed more, and we got it when Adam Johnson came on. We hope to use him in our last two games and get more chances.
"We play Arsenal next, and they are an excellent team. We have to make it as difficult as possible for Arsenal and score a goal. Swansea did it. If you are organised, you will always get chances.
"The players gave everything. I cannot ask for more from them. I can live with that, but they are disappointed. We are almost there, but not quite."
Newcastle doomed?
Garth Crooks
BBC Sport on Final Score
"I don't think Newcastle will survive, St James' will be a cauldron next week, and they face a manager who can't wait to send them down."
Manager reaction
QPR 2-1 Newcastle
QPR caretaker coach Chris Ramsey: "The fans have been absolutely fantastic all season. It's important we got those two goals. It's gets us back to thinking good things in the summer.
"There was plenty of effort in the first half, but lacked that bit of quality. Leroy Fer has got that in his locker - he brings a little bit of extra flavour to our team.
"I think fans can see we will try our best and that we will try to put the club on an even footing. It's not up to me who stays and who doesn't stay."
Manager reaction
QPR 2-1 Newcastle
Newcastle coach John Carver: "It was a mad 10 minutes in the second half and that was hugely disappointing. I thought in first half we were in control. They weren't a threat, we were organised.
"We knew the result we tried to get today and had to get. We had to go for the win.
"Having lost, this is the best scenario with Hull losing. There's one game left and it's a do or die situation.
"We have to manage the pressure this week, focus and keep out of media spotlight. We've talked about some games in the last three, four weeks being the biggest and next week against West Ham is one of them."

West Ham 1-2 Everton
Sam Allardyce must be sick of the sight of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has scored against West Ham every time he has played against them for Everton. Allardyce called him a "jinx" in the post-match press conference.
For the Hammers they are in pole position to qualify for the Europa League via fair play after Everton's four yellows.
For Everton they are now in the top half of the table, swapping places with the Hammers but their poor discipline today may cost them a place in Europe.
Gerrard says farewell to Anfield

'Spurs want to be in Europe'
Tottenham 2-0 Hull City
Mauricio Pochettino tells BBC Sport: "The first half was not easy because Hull are playing to survive. We're still in the fight to finish fifth. The fans needed that - it was a tough season for them too. I want to play in Europe next season - we need to win our one more game to be sure of getting in the Europa League and that is very important."

On the Jake Livermore situation for Hull: "I thought Steve Bruce handled his post-match interview very well, but he must be extremely frustrated, there must be anger and he will feel let down.
"Players are paid extremely well-paid to keep themselves fit, so if you are going to fall from grace can you do it in the close season please?"
Hull close to the brink
Stuart Pearce
Former England left-back on Final Score

Hull midfielder Jake Livermore was this week suspended by the Football Association and his club following a positive test for cocaine. Manager Steve Bruce had this to say after being asked about the matter: "It has been unquestionably my hardest 24/36 hours in management. It is hard to put your head round things.
"As always you have to handle it and not let it affect people. We are hugely disappointed but we have to move on, dust ourselves down and prepare as well as we can in a tough week."

Tottenham 2-0 Hull City
Hull manager Steve Bruce: "You can't come to Tottenham and create five or six good chances and not take one. We've switched off at the back and they have taken their chances.
"In terms of the way we played, no disrespect to Burnley but if we played like that against them our chances wouldn't be in the hands of others. We have to believe we can beat Manchester United next week.
"Six or seven of the players got me into the league a few years ago. They have big hearts. We've missed some of those big players during this season. We have a chance. Is there one final twist? Can we upset the apple cart. Lets hope we can do it."

There is a lot of loving for Nigel Pearson and his teams' super form as the season ends but what about Dick Advocaat.
Not only does he wear a designer coat and scarf on the touchline, he hasn't half pulled off a blinder since taking charge.
In the 7 games under Advocaat, Sunderland have picked up 11 points, as many as in the 14 previous Premier League games combined.
The Black Cats have two games - Arsenal and Chelsea - and need one point to stay up.

Not too sure what to make of this Queens Park Rangers lap of honour at the end of their home season. Bizarrely, for a club heading down into the Championship, there are a lot of smiles on show in the stands. Nigel Pearson is typically Jekyll and Hyde at Sunderland. He's on the pitch with his players, simply clapping fans one moment like a man in control before flipping into a raging bull as he embraces his players seconds later. He just high-fived a player so hard it could be heard in India.

QPR 2-1 Newcastle
Some fans rush onto the pitch at Loftus Road. They have nothing to celebrate as they are already down but at least their last home game of the season ends in a win. Questions aplenty for Newcastle United.
If they draw next week and Hull City win, it won't be good enough.

Sunderland 0-0 Leicester City
Leicester City's players are embracing, I'm talking big group hugs. As long as Hull don't turn their game with Tottenham around the Foxes are safe. And they are, it's all over at White Hart Lane. Leicester will be in the Premier League next season.
FULL-TIME
Burnley 0-0 Stoke
Burnley's home Premier League campaign ends with a drab goalless draw. The Turf Moor fans rise to applaud their team. They have certainly not been found lacking in terms of effort this campaign. Stoke reach the 51-point mark - their highest ever Premier League total.
FULL-TIME
Tottenham 2-0 Hull City
Tottenham end the season with what, in truth, was a fairly comfortable win. That it was so comfortable is a damning indictment of Hull and their hopes of remaining in this division. The Tigers huffed and puffed by came nowhere near a roar. Only Newcastle's equal ineptitude is keeping this relegation battle alive.

GOAL
West Ham 1-2 Everton - Romelu Lukaku
Everton have nicked this game at the death. Romelu Lukaku shows the most desire in the box to muscle his way to a cross from the right and dive in to head his side towards three points.

Sam Williams: As a Villa fan I would have taken a 15-0 loss today as long as we stay in the division and can rebuild for next season.
Dennis Edwards: Despite their humiliating defeat today, it looks like the 38 points will be enough to secure Villa's Premiership status.
SUBSTITUTION
Tottenham 2-0 Hull City
Another hopeless ball is swung straight into Hugo Lloris' hands by Hull. There are just a few more minutes to play of normal time, with three minutes added. Hull need a miracle.
Tottenham eat some of that time up by withdrawing Harry Kane to be replaced by Roberto Soldado. Kane gets a huge standing ovation from the home crowd for his efforts this season. The first 30-goal Spurs striker since Gary Lineker. Take a bow son.

Esteban Cambiasso stands over free-kick from the angle of the area, dangerous position. Here he comes... oh dear. Tottenham 2-0 Hull City
Hull are giving it a go. But you feel it is too little, too late. Stephen Quinn shoots low from the edge of the box but Hugo Lloris saves. If this stays how it is - and you sense it will - Hull will have to win their last game (at home against Manchester United) and hope Sunderland have already lost their game in hand and lose again on the final day or Newcastle fail to win. Hull's saving grace could be a superior goal difference.
GERRARD STARTS
Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Steven Gerrard is in the Liverpool team to face Crystal Palace this afternoon. It's his final game at Anfield. It's barely been in the press this week so if you didn't know, don't worry.

Sunderland 0-0 Leicester City
Have Sunderland and Leicester City realised a point here is now a good point as others struggle?
The home side are under most pressure but this one looks like ending level. Adam Johnson has other ideas, a nice run in from the right flank but his drive at the near post is dealt with by Kasper Schmeichel.

Answers on a postcard as to how Hull have not scored here. Dame N'Doye and Ahmed Elmohamady have a couple of bites at the cherry each from close range - all of which are either scuffed or blocked by a Tottenham defender - before the former acrobatically shoots wide of the far post. Steve Bruce is utterly crestfallen.

Replays of a pull in the box by Nedum Onuoha show Newcastle have a case for a penalty. The defender wraps an arm around Remy Cabella's shoulder and just pulls him down as a cross comes in.
GOAL
West Ham 1-1 Everton - Leon Osman
West ham's lead doesn't last long as Everton hit back. Romelu Lukaku's cross from the right finds Leon Osman 10 yards out. He has his back to goal but turns sharply and fires in to the net.

"You will not see a better pass all season as the one from Ryan Mason. He picks out Danny Rose with an incredible dink that takes out all the Hull defenders."
GOAL
QPR 2-1 Newcastle - Leroy Fer (61 mins)
PICK IT OUT. PICK IT OUT.
Some endeavour from QPR at last in these recent minutes and Matt Phillips slides to doggedly win a ball back which spills into the path of Leroy Fer.
What he does is anything but dogged. It's class, pure shimmering class. Right footed from around 35 yards, it bristles into the top corner, swerving away from Tim Krul as he dived to his right.

SUBSTITUTION

Tottenham's tails are up. Harry Kane is sent running into Hull's half but he takes on the shot early and drags his shot past the far post.
That is the cue for a change as Mousa Dembele replaces Christian Eriksen.

GOAL
QPR 1-1 Newcastle - Matt Phillips (54 mins)
John Carver stands hands on hips in the technical area, his side have done what they usually do, concede away from home. That's 16 in five away games for the Toon.
Simple stuff too. Charlie Austin produced a lovely left-foot cross moments ago, this time he switches and clips in from the right as Matt Phillips lurks at the back post. A good leap above his man, Tim Krul cannot cover across goal quickly enough and it's in at the near post.
CLOSE!
QPR 0-1 Newcastle
A long punt, Charlie Austin chases, Paul Dummett and Fabricio Coloccini should deal with this, bounce... bounce. Austin has the muscle, he fashion shooting space but flashes wide from 10 yards. The angle was against him.

Tottenham 1-0 Hull City - Nacer Chadli
John Hartson
BBC Radio 5 live at White Hart Lane
"It's a really good run from Chadli, there was a great through-ball, then he goes around Harper, and slides it into the empty net. Spurs take the lead against the run of play - I was just about to say that they had hardly got out of their own half since half-time."
YELLOW CARD
QPR 0-1 Newcastle
Joey Barton is in the book for a heavy challenge on the touchline which left Jonas Gutierrez in a heap. The look of frustration on Barton's face is pronounced.
GOAL
Tottenham 1-0 Hull City - Nacer Chadli (54 mins)
How significant a goal could this be? Just after Nikica Jelavic is flagged offside after getting into a good position, Spurs rub salt in the wound as Erik Lamela finds Nacer Chadli, who rounds the keeper and slots into the empty net. Hull are sinking. Three points currently separate them and safety. The Tigers need something big.

Queens Park Rangers must score... GOAL... no. Jonas Gutierrez is the Newcastle saviour on the goal line. Are Queens Park Rangers overly enthused by this game? They have been void of thought or creativity but have at least covered over 51km as a team, around one kilometre less than their visitors.
They certainly have effort on show but guile, threat and conviction, not so much.
Post update
West Ham 0-0 Everton
Not much between the teams at Upton Park. West Ham feel they should have had a penalty after Cresswell's cross appeared to hit Coleman's arm. Lukaku curled a great effort high and wide for Everton while Stuart Downing had the home side's best chance.
In the all important Fair Play table it is advantage West Ham as Everton's Barry and Coleman went into Mr Friend's book while Reid was shown a yellow for the Hammers.
Few goals, plenty of tension
So far, it is an afternoon light on Premier League goals but steadily increasing in tension. Of the teams in relegation trouble at the start of play, Newcastle will undoubtedly be the happiest with their afternoon's work so far. They have the goal that lifts them up to 14th and, as it stands, top-flight safety. Hull are the team most in need. If they cannot find a goal at Spurs you suspect that could be curtains.

Think Gordon Banks down at the near post from Pele. Take away several degrees of difficulty and that's this Alex McCarthy save. It was a Daryl Janmaat shot which deflected into the path of Fabricio Coloccini and he stabbed goalwards to find McCarthy down at his near post to tip it around.
Another Newcastle goal and this is over. QPR are like a kid on the last day of term, arms folded, at ease with the world.

QPR 0-1 Newcastle
This is worrying stuff for Queens Park Rangers. They are under the hammer here and no one more so than Nedum Onuoha at right back as Remy Cabella is the man taking much of Newcastle's play forward down the left.
His cross is cleared but put back in the mixer and Fabricio Coloccini heads down for the goalscorer but Emmanuel Riviere cannot get his feet organised and gets robbed in the box. A first-time hit was needed.

There are some very cagey games in the Premier League this afternoon. Cagier than the Ghost Rider box set. Just the one goal so far, but a significant one as it has lifted Newcastle to safety as it stands. Hull remain the team in occupation of the final relegation spot. They could dearly do with a goal at Spurs, but so far they are struggling to make any impact in the final third.

Sunderland 0-0 Leicester City
Still we wait for an opener at Sunderland. It's nervy. A corner comes in and defenders pull strikers, strikers pull defenders, it's a grapple-heavy zone. Wes Morgan gets an inch of space and prods at goal but it's hacked away. He couldn't get any purchase on it.
OUCH!
QPR 0-1 Newcastle
One way for Joey Barton to get rid of the "bad eggs" he has highlighted in the Queens Park Rangers dressing room is to wipe them all out. We don't know Rob Green is a bad egg, he looks a good sort, but Barton has just crushed a knee cap into the goalkeepers face.
It's a hide-your-eyes moment. There is blood and Green will do well to play on. Out on the canvas in his six-yard box.

Hull play a risky game allowing Christian Eriksen to dance through their defence and set up Harry Kane on an angle on the left. Kane was burying these earlier in the season. Fortunately for Hull, he drags his shot across goal and wide.
With Sunderland currently being held by Leicester, Hull still have a rival only two points above them. But Newcastle's goal has propelled them to 14th in the table and four points clear of the Tigers.

The home ranks rally, close the Tigers striker down and clear.
GOAL
QPR 0-1 Newcastle - Emmanuel Riviere
Oh yes. the back flips, the somersaults. It's like Lomana LuaLua all over again. Emmanuel Riviere has his first Newcastle goal. It's not pretty, he slips as he hits it, the ball cannons off both legs, but does he care? Not a jot. Away he goes to celebrate.
A long ball did the damage and he slipped in behind the home defence, pulled it down nicely and shot right footed - loosing his footing in the process - and his initial strike deflected of what should have been his standing leg, over Rob Green and in.

Robert Green has to flap a cross clear as the ball spins violently across QPR's six-yard box. Moussa Sissoko whipped in a nice delivery and the away side are growing in confidence here. Rangers have leaked 67 goals this season remember. A big opportunity this for John Carver's side.

It is make or break time for Hull at White Hart Lane. They bombed out against Burnley last week. Can they go a way towards saving themselves this afternoon? Newcastle, Sunderland, Leicester and Villa hope not.
Spurs are sporting their kit for next season as a little teaser. And Danny Rose has dyed his hair red. Interesting choice.
Game time...
Fabricio Coloccini and Rob Green stand side by side in the tunnel at Loftus Road. John O'Shea and Wes Morgan do the same at the Stadium of Light. Mascots smile, players look serious, referees try to look important.
Here they come...
The best is yet to come...
Right, so we've had a dramatic East Anglian derby play-off win for Norwich, a hat-trick from Sadio Mane in less than three minutes in a 6-1 win for Southampton against Villa and it is not yet 3pm. With a whole host of relegation-themed games to come and a Steven Gerrard Anfield farewell to come there's every reason to believe we've not peaked yet.
Say we are staying up...
Sunderland v Leicester (15:00 BST)
Good timing. We all think we've got it on the dance floor, few have, but Nigel Pearson probably knows how to cut up a rug.
His side laid dormant for several months, cocooned in their Christmas onesie, it was time to shake off the cobwebs by April and boy have they done so. A run of six wins in seven has them close to salvation in the Premier League. Don't go back to bed yet lads. Those dancing shoes won't fit so nice in the Championship.

On the day Steven Gerrard gets his big goodbye at Anfield, there's a name missing from the Tottenham squad.
Brad Friedel, retiring at the age of 43 at the end of this season, will not be given a send off at White Hart Lane.

In a world full of social media, mobile phones, email, Periscope (if you've not heard of it, give it a Google), what better way to say goodbye to someone than with a hand-written letter. I particularly like the smiley face and the fact he kept his crossings out. He's Mario Balotelli, he doesn't have time to start again.
That's exactly what Mario Balotelli has produced for Steven Gerrard. The Italian calls playing with his captain an "amazing and unforgettable experience". "You are a great man and cool captain," he adds. "It is a pleasure to leave free kicks and penalties to you."

Southampton 4-0 Aston Villa
Infostrada Sports: Sadio Mane also scored the EARLIEST instance of a PL hat-trick (16th min). Previously record was held by Dwight Yorke (21st min).
GOAL
Southampton 4-0 Aston Villa - Shane Long (26 mins)
The only surprise here is that Shane Long has scored and not Sadio Mane. Prior to this game, Tim Sherwood looked to have made Villa tough to beat. Such an impression has been ripped to shreds in 26 minutes at St Mary's. Graziano Pelle's effort is saved by Shay Given, but the ball falls into the path of Shane Long, who passes it into the back of the net.
The Villa players look like their heads have been smashed between two cymbals. Some of their fans are leaving already. Presumably to find the nearest pub.

HALF-TIME
Norwich City 0-0 Ipswich Town
Half-time in the East Anglian play-off derby and we are no closer to deciding who will play Middlesbrough in the final at Wembley. It has been a closely-contested, fiercely-fought affair, as you'd expect, but one lacking in significant goalmouth action.
Mane at the treble
Southampton 3-0 Aston Villa - Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane's three goals were scored in two minutes and 56 seconds, making it the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history.
GOAL
Southampton 3-0 Aston Villa - Sadio Mane (16 mins)
Unbe-ruddy-lievable! Sadio Mane has scored three goals in three minutes as Villa fall spectacularly apart. The ball is played across the edge of the box and finds Mane in acres of space to side-foot a shot into the roof of the net past the dive of Shay Given.
GOAL
Southampton 2-0 Aston Villa - Sadio Mane (14 mins)
Terrible news for Villa. Sadio Mane makes it two goals in a minute to give the home side a form grip on this game. It is shocking defending from Villa, with a backpass that falls short of Shay Given and allows Mane to pops the ball into an open net.
GOAL
Southampton 1-0 Aston Villa - Sadio Mane (13 mins)
Bad news for Villa as Sadio Mane flicks the ball away from a sliding Ron Vlaar challenge, sees an initial shot saved by Shay Given but is able to recover to slot the ball into an empty net.

Hull have won just two of their last 10 league matches. They are without a victory in six Premier League games against Tottenham.
Newcastle have gone nine Premier League games without a win. They have lost their last five away matches, conceding 14 goals without scoring.
Sunderland have earned 10 points from the last five matches and are undefeated in the last six league meetings with Leicester.
Leicester have won six of their last seven matches.
It would be fair to say Hull and Newcastle fans are a little bit worried.

Southampton v Aston Villa (12:45 BST)
We won't see a team relegated from the Premier League today. We'll have to wait until at least Wednesday for that, when Sunderland play their game in hand at Arsenal.
However, today's results are likely to play a huge part in deciding the battle against the drop, starting with Aston Villa's game at Southampton. A Villa win will mean they are safe and able to turn their focus on the FA Cup final. They might even be safe tonight if they get beat, but that is dependent on other results. That game will be getting under way in about 25 minutes.

East Anglia mega-derby

It is pleasant day in Norwich. Mick McCarthy looks to be sunning himself down on the bench as one of the sprinklers threatens to give him a dousing. He look pretty relaxed but that is surely the calm before the storm.
The East Anglian mega-powers are about to explode at the Carrow Road. The stakes? Oh, just a potential shot at top-flight football and an extra £120m in the coffers.
Relegation battle
With two games to go the smart relegation money is on Hull City, who have been more like an asthmatic kitten than a tiger of late. However, Newcastle appear determined to throw themselves in front of City and take a relegation bullet for the division, that's if rivals Sunderland don't beat them to it.
Leicester have done to the form book what Geoff Capes used to do to phone directories, while Villa can crawl out of the mire and shower themselves off today before it gets really messy at 3 o'clock.
The Championship has already called two top-flight boats in. One of five teams will soon be getting the shout: your Premier League time is up.
A song of relegation and survival
Thanks Saj. Fine work, sir. I salute you. So, Burnley, gone. QPR, gone. Whose next?
As its stands, Hull, Newcastle, Sunderland, Leicester and Villa are playing their own game of thrones. And as anyone who reads/watches George RR Martin's work knows, nobody is guaranteed to survive.
Within the next week we are going to have our own Red Wedding. And one of the aforementioned teams aren't going to be back for the next series.

"I don't see Crystal Palace ruining Gerrard's big day. It is basically a chance for all Liverpool fans to say thank you and pay homage to him.

Bye bye Big Sam?
West Ham v Everton (15:00 BST)
Side-by-side in the table and nothing to play for.
West Ham and Everton have had a solid, yet unspectacular season. The Toffees never really got going, while the Hammers hit the heady heights of fourth then slowly slipped down.

His future will be confirmed after the season, with his two-year deal set to run out this summer.
"If you want somebody else to do more than I have done then I think you will have to be calling for Houdini," said the manager of his four years at the club.
Houdini was more of an escapologist than magician. Pedantry to one side, the Hammers could still finish with a Europa League spot via the Fair Play Table. Bad news is that the campaign would start on 2 July, which is silly isn't it?

Relegated Burnley say goodbye to Premier League football at Turf Moor for a while, having had relegation confirmed last week despite victory at Hull.

Villa all but secure
Southampton v Aston Villa (12:45 BST)
Tim Sherwood's Villa are closing in on a Premier League and FA Cup double. Survival would be the first part followed by victory over Arsenal at Wembley.
They are four points above the drop zone and a win at the Saints would be enough to fend off the threat of relegation.
Ronald Koeman's Saints have just lost their mojo of late - with three defeats in four. It's not beyond Villa to get the win they need, although the Hampshire side have picked up 10 points from their last four home games.
Will Tim be celebrating tonight with a new jacket and jumper?

*In the last seven games.
That's still impressive. Their 18 points means that only Paris Saint-Germain (21), Borussia Monchengladbach, Real Madrid and Barcelona (all 19) have been more impressive over the same amount the matches.
However, the Nigel Pearson's men still remain only three points above the drop zone.
The Black Cats are a point below, but with three games in hand. They have picked up seven crucial points from the last 12, and host the Foxes on the back of a surprise 2-0 win at Everton.
A win for either would mean they can just about count themselves safe.

With the Champions League places pretty much sewn up and two of the relegation spots 'taken', we look at what is up for grabs.
Let's start at the bottom and Tottenham v Hull.
Safety is not really in the hands of the 18th place side. They are relying on Newcastle, Sunderland and Leicester to slip up - the latter two play each other today - and for them to possibly have to beat both Spurs and then Manchester United on the final day of the season. They are 5-2 ON favourites to go down.

Will they though?
