  1. Record breaker?published at 16:44 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

Captain Wayne Rooney has seemed destined to break the England goalscoring record almost since he emerged as a 16-year-old at Goodison Park.

He goes into today's game on 47 goals for his country, one behind Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker and two behind Sir Bobby Charlton.

Is today the day he breaks the record?

"I feel sorry for Nathaniel Clyne, it has been a big step up for him after a great season but he hasn't showed much confidence to Roy Hodgson. He was on the edge of things in training and this will have been perfect for his development.

"Phil Jones has come in but he is not a right-back, so where is his best position? Right-back is a problem for us. Kieran Gibbs comes in at left-back so there are changes in the back four."

  3. Elsewhere in Group Epublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

The other four sides in England's Group are all playing today.

At the same time, Estonia face San Marino, while at 19:45 BST Switzerland take on Lithuania.

Second place is up for grabs, with five points covering four sides.

Apparently England have used 10 different back fours in the last nine games. It's Gary Cahill + three others.

The days of Neville, Terry, Ferdinand and Cole are a distant memory.

What do we think is Jack Wilshere's best position? He will play in a very deep, quarterback style position in the England midfield again today. But is he suited better to a more advanced position?

Jordan Henderson and Fabian Delph will line up alongside him, providing plenty of energy.

I've heard many, many good things about the place.

The Slovenia team has arrived and as expected 36-year-old Milivoje Novakovic is up front on his own. He plays for Nagoya Grampus Eight these days, the last home of a certain Gary Lineker.

Jan Oblak is only on the bench. He must be up there with the best sub keepers in international football...

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"Slovenia coach Srecko Katanec has something up his sleeve to surprise England here in Ljubljana after their 3-1 loss at Wembley, writing in his programme notes: "Of course we all learned something after the defeat in London. I will not openly discuss what it was but I will tell that to my players."

    "Mysterious Srecko."

Drew Gillespy: Why keep playing Sterling and Henderson?! Sterling will get too tired and the only thing Hendo's done for England is an own goal!

Luke Gwalchmai: Why is Hodgson moving away from the diamond formation? It was working and suited his counter attacking style.

Wale ibraheem: Townsend ahead of Theo? Oh Roy what are you doing?

"England's management and players were lining up to give assurances that Raheem Sterling would not be affected by his very public contract wrangle with Liverpool - and the manner in which he was jeered during the goalless draw with the Republic of Ireland last Sunday - when it came to the Euro 2016 qualifying business here in Slovenia.

"And manager Roy Hodgson clearly has no qualms as he starts here in Ljubljana - it is a big chance for Sterling to showcase his talent, which has brought one rejected offer of around £30m from Manchester City, a bid they are expected to improve upon shortly."

Still no word on the Slovenia side for this afternoon's game.

I'm not sure if they have any genuine household names but they have two quality keepers in Samir Handanovic of Inter and Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, two midfielders from Fiorentina and Kevin Kampl who plays for Dortmund, while up front veteran Milivoje Novakovic has scored 29 international goals and will be a threat.

That England team selection has not gone down too well on social media - but then again no team selection ever has.

Phil Jones must bring something to the table at right-back. Extra height? He also has a habit of making superb faces when he concedes a goal.

Kevin D'Souza: Clyne not right-back?! A proper right-back compared to Jones who is... I have no idea what. Hodgson 'performance doesn't matter' Poor attitude.

Jack Cooper: Phil Jones ahead of Clyne at right back? Dear God Roy, what are you doing?

Christian Doak: Phil Jones ahead of Nathaniel Clyne? Raheem Sterling ahead of Theo Walcott? Nope, me neither

The consensus is that England have had two exciting games in the last 20 years.

When they beat Netherlands 4-1 in Euro 96, and when they beat Germany 5-1 in 2001.

Surely it's time for that to change?

"Andros Townsend has become a trusted figure with Roy Hodgson's England set-up and he is back to face Slovenia - with Liverpool's unsettled Raheem Sterling also included.

"There is great expectation surrounding this game here in Ljubljana - but not a lot of optimism if the words of the locals are any measure."

Alex Tuck: Our 3-2 win against Sweden in the group stages of Euro 2012 was as exciting as it gets. Welbeck's backheel was the highlight.

Danny Cunningham: Best recent results for me were home win and away draw against Brazil in 2013. Shame it didn't help for the World Cup!

Richard Southworth: Strangely, the best quality football I remember England playing was when we lost to Italy and Uruguay at the World Cup!
