"It may all work out fine in the end but general mystification here at the decision to put Jordan Henderson at right-back to replace the hapless Phil Jones while Nathaniel Clyne, a natural in the position, sits it out."

Huge goal in Spain's group as Dynamo Kiev's Artem Kravets puts Ukraine ahead at home to struggling Luxembourg. Ukraine are now level with second-placed Spain in the 'as it stands' table.

England controlling possession at the start of this half, but the hosts are happy to see them have it in midfield. England need to find the weapons to hurt Slovenia - no damage done yet.

The ref gets in the way of a promising Slovenia attack, and England look to counter. Raheem Sterling carries the ball forwards but Andros Townsend wastes it with a poor strike from distance.

This is a niche discussion topic we are entering here but surely it is possible for someone other than a full-back to take throw-ins?

Anyway, can Adam Lallana help open up Slovenia?

"I hope Jordan Henderson can take throw-ins because Phil Jones can't."

Phil Jones is coming off at the break - and Adam Lallana is the man to switch. What on earth does that mean for tactics?

Will Roy Hodgson make any half-time changes? It's not his usual style. But Gary Neville is in deep discussion with Adam Lallana during the interval.

More shots. More corners. But England are still losing. The half-time stats might make positive reading but the scoreline does not.

Slovenia would be three points behind England with four games remaining if they hang on to win this one. Both sides would be confident of qualifying for France.

After a slow start, the goals are flying in across Europe in the other early Euro 2016 qualifying kick-offs.

Estonia lead San Marino 1-0 in England's group, while Group G leaders Austria are ahead away to Russia. Moldova have equalised away to Liechtenstein in Group G while it's goalless between Ukraine and Luxembourg in Group C.

England are the Newcastle of the international world!

Great support, not won anything in 50 years, think they're bigger than they perhaps are, managed by someone whose highlight is reaching the Europa League final...

Karl Mc Donnell: England remind me of Newcastle. Dedicated fans, huge expectations, mediocre players, and they turn on the manager too fast.

Greg Randles: Need some players with a bit of fight and guts in this squad! Haven't had it since Euro 96! Not Hodgson's fault

Arthur Wilson: England need a Charlie Austin on the pitch. Proper CF to get crosses into.

Do Premier League players really need dedicated time to practice throw-ins?

  18. Postpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

    Martin Keown
    BBC Sport

"Looking at Raheem Sterling's body language, you can tell he has had opportunities to put England ahead. Slovenia cashed in on an England mistake. It is worrying.

"Occasionally, I was asked to play full-back, and you suddenly have the ball in your hand. Maybe Phil Jones does need to practice taking throw-ins, he does not know what to do with it.

"Gary Cahill needs to go with the runner, that is an experienced player who tried to play offside.

"I don't think we should be panicking but we need to go through Jack Wilshere much more. You have to use the central players. He needs to drive out with the ball, he has done a lot of defending so far."

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"Slovenia's fans here in Ljubljana loved that. England were in control - without a cutting edge admittedly - until a complete fiasco of a throw in from Phil Jones set Slovenia on their way for that goal. Once again Manchester United's defender is clumsy, and this time costly."
