Today is a trophy, a little one but still a trophy and more important than a summer tournament. There is no advantage and no disadvantage [to winning the Community Shield]. I don’t know if Diego Costa will be available for the start of the season. He had a little problem after the Barcelona game. After that he was training normally and we thought he would be ready, but this morning he was feeling uncomfortable."

  11. Falcao can be super again - Mourinhopublished at 14:10

Jose Mourinho believes Radamel Falcao can rediscover his "super scorer" status at Chelsea.

“I like him, I like him a lot as a player," said Mourinho.

"We play very well with a striker of his sort. He’s not just a striker who can score goals, he is always a threat. He contributes a lot to the quality of the game."

  12. 'Van Gaal didn't give Falcao a chance'published at 14:05

So Radamel Falcao starts on the bench today. He struggled at Manchester United last season, but can he succeed at Chelsea this year?

Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo – now manager at Serie B side Modena – believes the Colombian needs to rediscover his self-belief.

“After such a bad injury as he had you need time and it’s not easy to recover. He met a manager in Louis van Gaal who didn’t give him the chance to play regularly.

“You also have to consider that every player wants to play with continuity, but managers don’t always receive the same treatment from their bosses: if they lose a few games they risk to get sacked too! You have to take your chances if you want to play regularly; probably he was not the kind of player Van Gaal was looking for.

“We will see what happens at Chelsea, which is obviously a top club too: it won’t be easy for him to play regularly either. Jose doesn’t make any presents... All Falcao has to do is to believe in himself and to be the great player he is. That will be enough to convince Mourinho to give him a chance.”

  20. Pellegrini thinks about me - Mourinhopublished at 13:34

    Arsenal v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

    Jose MourinhoImage source, Getty Images

For someone who, you would think, would be relaxed after some proper R&R, Jose Mourinho has been getting stuck into his rivals this week.

As well as some digs at Arsene Wenger, he has also had a pop at Manuel Pellegrini, teasing the Manchester City boss for thinking about him while on holiday.

Pellegrini gave an interview in Chile last month in which he said Mourinho “wants to take credit for everything”.

“When a manager is on holidays and still thinks about me, I have nothing to say,” said Mourinho. “I don’t know why he did it. In my holidays I did zero interviews."
