More from Arsene Wenger who tells BBC Sport : "That was a bit scary when we missed those chances. We are used in our game to be punished after that which makes the three points more important.

"Alexis Sanchez has had only two weeks' training but he still had the mental resources to score a vital goal for us.

"It's not a 100 per cent fit Sanchez but it's a 100 per cent motivated Sanchez and sometimes that's enough."

Arsene Wenger on his decision to replace Francis Coquelin after he avoided a second yellow card .

He told Sky Sports: "I felt it wasn't fortunate. I would like to see that again but in the end the pressure created by the crowd meant I took him off. When you are 2-1 up and he is playing quite well that's difficult. It's a sensitive decision."

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew on BBC Sport: " The game changed on two incidents. We hit the post at 1-1 and you have to argue they are lucky to have 11 players. Everyone knew in the stadium he should have gone.

"The game was very even, they play a different style. They were good, much better than against West Ham. Sharper in the mind and we stlll feel aggrieved we haven't come out with anything.

"I thought the three new boys were our best players and we know the others are great. That is a good sign. Arsenal were a hurt animal but the early period was bad for us, we made a lot of mistakes."

The Crystal Palace boss obviously thinks Francis Coquelin was a lucky man...

Alan Pardew tells Sky Sports: "I said to Lee Mason 'listen. That tackle before half time is not a sending off at that point but that's his last chance, you know that'.

"He then makes the foul and he's (should be) off at that point. Arsene Wenger knew that and took him off.

"It's a decision Lee Mason needs to be braver on."

- Arsenal’s last three Premier League clashes with Crystal Palace have all ended in 2-1 victories for the Gunners.

- The Eagles have registered just three victories in their last 12 Premier League London derbies (D3 L6).

Olivier Giroud told Sky Sports: "I said before the game we really needed these three points to bounce back after the performance at home when we lost against West Ham. 

"We could have scored more goals in doing a better choice with the last pass but we are really happy to get the three points. 

"You always get criticised when you lose, especially at home. We said at the beginning of the championship that we want to win the league so we will join the title race. 

"When you say that you have to face expectations. It was a bad performance (last week) but even though we lost last week the most important in football is to bounce back the week after and keep your faith in your game, which is what we tried to do and succeeded to do today."

Palace are finally pushing. Joel Ward's header towards goal is straight at Petr Cech.

And it almost proves costly for Arsenal. Jason Puncheon's right -wing corner is flicked towards goal by Mikel Arteta but it deflects off Jordon Mutch's head in front of goal and over.

Patrick Bamford's first real involvement is to earn his side a corner. It shouldn't be one as the ball came of Bamford last...

If anything, Arsenal look the more likely to score the next goal as they soak up the pressure and hit the Eagles on the break.

Yahan Cabaye does punt the ball into the penalty area for the hosts but it is all pretty toothless. The Gunners are looking solid.

Arsenal deserve that as Alexis Sanchez leaps like a salmon to put the Gunners back ahead. 

Hector Bellerin stands the ball up from the right and Sanchez climbs brilliantly to head the ball goalwards and into the net, via a huge deflection off Damien Delaney. It goes down as an own goal but Sanchez will try to claim it.

Again Arsenal waste a dangerous-looking position as the free kick is comfortably cleared. This match is anyone's. It is a crackerjack at the moment.

A flowing move from Arsenal involving Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez. Like a knife through butter as they work through Palace's midfield. The ball ends up at Aaron Ramsey on the right but his low cross is cleared with Mesut Ozil waiting to tap home.

A sublime bit of skill from Ozil then sees Wilfried Zaha chop him down on the bye line. Free-kick and chance...

HITS THE WOODWORK

Almost a brilliant start for the hosts. Wilfried Zaha has loads of space to drill in a low cross from the right and Connor Wickham, on his home debut, diverts the ball against the post from close range. A let-off for Arsenal.

That substitution sees Jason Puncheon pushed out to the left flank in place of Bolasie, with Jordon Mutch playing centrally.

"For Arsenal, the pace and movement is key. You need to match your runs against them but at home? I think I fancy Palace to get something."

"It is a big game today to set a marker against probably one of the title contenders as well and if they go there, knowing the way Jose Mourinho works, they will probably nick a win."

Ex-player Danny Mills on Chelsea's squad: "You look at the net spend. Newcastle have spent more than anyone else. The big teams might buy big but they spend big. 

"Ideally they want Everton defender John Stones in. Maybe Chelsea need another creative midfielder or forward. It looks like current midfielder Juan Cuadrado is out of the picture."

Palace fans are optimistic

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parrish on MOTD2 Extra:  "I think in the 90s it was positive - in the times of Wright and Bright. But this is the first time since then people have felt optimistic. We are a work in progress. We are not the finished article. You have to try to set new standards and achieve new things. As you're bringing new players in you have to get everything else around them right. 

"The club has been underinvested for many years.It was a great statement getting in Yohan Cabaye. But you don't win games in the transfer window, you win them on the pitch. I think we'll do some business before the transfer window. We expect one or two to go and one or two to come in."

There has been a first goal of the day and it goes to Hull City at Molineux.

Talking about City boss Manuel Pellegrini signing a new contract, he somehow managed to turn that into a chance to have a pop at Arsene Wenger.

When asked if he was surprised by the deal, Mourinho said: "Why? Some other clubs, they have disappointed for 15 years and the manager is the same."

Martinez calls for unity

As mentioned earlier, Everton manager Roberto Martinez says the club needs unity after fans staged a fly-past protest against chairman Bill Kenwright and the Toffees board.

A plane carrying a banner reading: 'Kenwright & Co #time to go NSNO,' flew over St Mary's Stadium during Everton's 3-0 win at Southampton on Saturday.

The Blues secured their first victory at St Mary's in over a decade against a lacklustre Southampton on Saturday though as two goals from Romelu Lukaku caused the damage.

It has been another miserable weekend for Sunderland fans.

And Black Cats manager Dick Advocaat says he will hold a Sunday meeting with his players to find out why his side have started the season so badly.

The Black Cats followed up their 4-2 opening-day defeat at Leicester with a 3-1 reverse at home to newly promoted Norwich on Saturday.

"It was even worse than last week," Advocaat said. "We have to discuss with the players how we go on."

Manchester City have scored 3,539 goals since striker Uwe Rosler was born, with the German netting 69 of them between 1994 and 1998.

The City scene has changed quite a bit since then, but if fans are expecting to add to the 17 trophies and promotions won in Rosler's lifetime this season, they might be in for a shock.

My Premier League Life predicts City fans will have to wait until 2018 for their next piece of silverware. Will manager Manuel Pellegrini still be around then?
