The red card of Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois is a stonewall sending off and it cannot be overturned.

Thibaut Courtois was shown a straight red and conceded a penalty for wiping out Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis on the edge of the box. Chelsea are contesting the one-game ban.

As well as Mark Lawrenson, former England cricketer Graeme Swann also had a go with a prediction. He thinks Man City will win 2-0.

"Man City will get off to a good start but I think they will finish fourth this year, one place behind Newcastle," the, um, Toon fan thinks.

Looking at the form of Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala last season, I think Rickie Lambert and Saido Berahino will fancy playing against them. I'm not going to rule West Brom out tonight.

    Mark Lawrenson prediction

I can see West Brom improving again under Tony Pulis, who is clearly a very good manager at this level.

With what they have got in their squad, Manchester City should be finishing in second place at worst.

Raheem Sterling has come in and Fabian Delph (injured tonight) is probably a replacement for James Milner.

But with Milner gone, Stevan Jovetic sold to Inter Milan and Edin Dzeko expected to join Roma soon, are Manchester City actually good enough to win the title?

They finished eight points off Chelsea last summer - will Sterling be enough to help them plug that gap?

West Brom's summer signing Rickie Lambert goes straight into the mixer as he starts in attack alongside Saido Berahino. Fellow new signings, defender James Chester and winger James McClean, also make debuts. Centre-back Joleon Lescott plays against his former club.

Manchester City's £49m summer acquisition Raheem Sterling starts, with the visitors giving striker Wilfried Bony the nod ahead of Sergio Aguero, while Eliaquim Mangala partners Vincent Kompany in central defence.

  13. City could do with instant Sterling impactpublished at 19:06

West Brom v Man City (20:00 BST)

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

"This will be something of a novelty for Tony Pulis - taking charge of a team for their opening match of the season - the first time he'll have done that since his Stoke days.

"He and all Albion followers will be eager to see what a Rickie Lambert and Saido Berahino forward partnership looks like.

"But the national spotlight is more likely to focus on how Manchester City's expensive new recruit Raheem Sterling fares.

"At one stage it looked as though there was some doubt as to whether Manuel Pellegrini would make it to the start of this season in his job but lo and behold, instead he's landed a contract extension.

"However, he could still do with Sterling making an instant impact."
