How has that stayed out! From the corner Martin Skrtel flicks on, Danny Ings is denied right on the line. The ball bobbles across and Roberto Firmino has the goal at his mercy, but he can't get a shot away!

Great play in midfield from Emre Can, he drives past one man and slides a ball into the path of Christian Benteke. Matteo Darmian does just enough.

Olowabi Akanni:  De Gea just showed why Man Utd didn't want him to go on the cheap, simply world-class!

Chris Harvey:  United have the best goalkeeper, the best full-backs and the strongest midfield in the league. Obvious what they are lacking.

And now Liverpool go close again. A free-kick is nodded on, Danny Ings gets a shot away, it's not the cleanest of strikes but bounces awkwardly off the turf and is looping in until David De Gea stretches out a hand and pushes it away. 

Liverpool's best opening! And it all comes from a poor clearance from David De Gea.

Liverpool work the ball neatly out to the right, Nathaniel Clyne feeds Roberto Firmino and his cross is going in until Chris Smalling clears from off the line!

There was some good holding from Bastian Schweinsteiger in that cleverly-worked free-kick from Manchester United. They really drew all the defenders toward the goal, leaving Daley Blind with all sorts of space to plant his shot into the corner. Good finish.

Can Liverpool respond? They have been abject in attack all night.

Hopefully that is the tonic the game needed. The crowd have come alive and Juan Mata almost finds Ander Herrera with a clever chip over the top, Martin Skrtel reacts well to clear.

Another set-piece causes Liverpool trouble as Daley Blind's cross is scuffed behind by Bastian Schweinsteiger.
