Both teams had a shocker. Can they improve? They must.

Nick Hughes:  What an appalling game of football. Utter shambles from both sides. Liverpool need to change formation, United need a striker. 

Richard: Did I just watch a half between Manchester United and Liverpool with no shots on goal and no saves made?

I'm trying not to be overly negative but that was truly dismal stuff. Dear, oh dear.

A colleague in the office is offering the fact that these players have all been away on international break as a slight excuse. Maybe. Maybe.

The fans of both these sides look forward to these games from the day the fixtures come out in June. Which makes this first half all the more disappointing.

"It's been an illustration of Liverpool's shortcomings that their passing has been so poor and haphazard, and it's an illustration of Manchester United's shortcomings that they haven't been made to pay for that."

Memphis Depay pings over a left-footed cross and again Marouane Fellaini's touch is so laboured and clumsy, the ball runs away from him. 

This game is a disgrace to the the tradition of Saturday night entertainment.

Give me Gladiators, Blind Date or Noel's House Party someone.

Surely it has to improve after the break. Right?
