And with that I bid you farewell.

It has been a pleasure, although I'm sure Newcastle fans will disagree.

Still, as Yazz would say, the only way is up.

Hammers fans enjoy the heady heights of fifth in the Premier League. Cheerio.

Arthur Crube: McClaren is constantly hailed as an innovative coach. Why? While he's had some successes they're outnumbered by the failures.

Liam Tidmarsh: The frustrating life as a @NUFC supporter: 360 minutes without a goal, 20/20 in EPL and 1 win in 15!

Mark Noble had a solid game for the Hammers tonight - not a bad way to start your full-time captaincy at the club. Noble was announced as the new official captain of West Ham after Kevin Nolan left.

More from Newcastle boss Steve McClaren on Sky Sports: "We did not do what we have been doing for the first four games when we looked organised, disciplined, won our duels, competed. I don't know what it was, the journey? We were late getting here.

"We said before 'deal with it' but maybe we didn't deal with it. It is a wake up call for everyone. In this Premier League you need to be 100 % and if you aren't you get beat.

"Big wake up call and now a big reaction on Saturday we need. I don't want to make excuses but the journey wasn't the best preparation.

"Could we come away and create chances tonight? Our final ball wasn't of the quality of West Ham which is why we lost. It is in the heart and the head and we need a reaction."

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren on BBC:  "Our platform has been hard to beat, disciplined, and this was a wake up call. If we are not right we will get beat.

"I am not blaming the coach journey, you have to deal with that and we didn't deal with it very well.

"You need these games, they hurt like mad, but you need them to get the message across.

"This is a journey and it is two steps forward one step back, today was two or three steps back. Saturday is very important for us. Our final ball was poor."

More from West Ham boss Slaven Bilic on Sky Sports: Three points at home are vital because you want yours fans to go home happy, to go to the pub and have a drink.

"I know why they gave me the job because next year the club is moving to a new stadium and we need a really good season at Upton Park.

I didn't set targets in terms on top 10, our target is we want a good team that can defend with numbers, than can attack with numbers, who can keep the ball.

"If we succeed in that that should give us more points. I don;t know if we will be fifth or 15th."

    FT: West Ham 2-0 Newcastle

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic on Sky Sports: "We fully deserved three points, we were better from the start, we scored at the right time.

"From that moment, Newcastle put us under a bit of pressure as we were defending to deep. In the second half I was proud, because we were solid, good at keeping the ball and great at counter attacks.

"Small proof we really did well in the transfer window. Payet is a player I wanted from the start, it happened so quick,I couldn't believe. He came in five days.

"I know him for a long time, he is one of those players who is not only a great player but he makes players around him better."

West Ham skipper Mark Noble:  "Payet doesn't just create and score goals, he works hard and plays for the team. That's why the team and players work so hard.

"We had a similar journey tonight, got here late but a little earlier than Newcastle."

Newcastle's players were forced to walk the last mile to the ground after being stuck in traffic.

"You can see why Newcastle have not scored since the first game of the season. I don't think the Newcastle players get what Steve McClaren is trying to do at the moment - their system was totally unbalanced.

"There was no width and it was all down the middle. But when Ayoze Perez came on it gave Newcastle a whole new dimension - I don't know why he wasn't on from the start.

"West Ham earned a first home win of the season and it was pretty comfortable for them."
