West Ham v Newcastle (20:00 BST)

Since former boss Alan Pardew left the Newcastle job at the end of 2014, the club's form has been woeful.

They have only won three times in the league in this calendar year. Will they make it a fourth victory tonight?

You can't beat a night match for an atmosphere.

The Boleyn Ground lights are glaring in the dark, the crowd buzz audible over the tannoy music, and an empty pitch waiting for the players.

West Ham v Newcastle (20:00 BST)

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren  talks about the traffic disruption that has affected his build-up to the match.

He says: "The road was gridlocked and the police did very well to get us here. It's a shorter preparation but we just need to deal with it.

"We need to put a marker down and show a bit more than we have shown before. We will have to defend well as they have named a very attacking side. Wins at Arsenal and Liverpool show they will be a force to be reckoned with."

"Steve McClaren has to manage a huge amount of expectation at Newcastle. He understands the passion there, we all do. If you don’t deliver what they want, you’ll get criticised. It’ll come his way somewhere along the line.

"Their fans are passionate about what they think the club should be. The history doesn’t tell you that but they don’t change. Their fans were exactly as they are now when I was playing. Because everything around the city resolves around the club.

"Bobby Robson was the last one to get in the Champions League. Their spending power has diminished. Every set of fans want to be entertained. The bottom line is they all want you to win. There is no such thing as entertainment if you lose. Nobody says ‘well done Sam’ if you’re the better team and lost wherever I’ve managed."

Bilic was the man smiling as Croatia beat England 3-2 at Wembley in November 2007, a result that ended England's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008 and saw McClaren leave his job as the national boss.

McClaren says the experience at Wembley nearly eight years ago was his worst moment in football, but believes it has made him a better manager.

"They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger - and it did nearly kill me, but I survived," said McClaren.

"It was the lowest I got. But you need these things and they happen for a reason. You either slink off or try to come back with more of a determination."

    Remember this guy?

Andy Carroll is back in a West Ham squad for the first time since February after needing knee surgery.

The 26-year-old, who scored 33 goals in 91 appearances for Newcastle at the start of his career, moved on loan from Liverpool to West Ham in August 2012 before completing a £15m permanent deal to the Hammers in June 2013.

But his time at West Ham has proved to be a frustrating one, scuppered by injuries.

Paul Ure: Henrik Larsson's last game for Celtic. Knew there and then we would never have a player as good ever again.

Dag-Magnus: Gerrard slipping, losing the league, being at Anfield last home game, and the successive seasons after that.

Those were the days eh Hammers fans?

Back in 1986, West Ham challenged for the First Division title and recorded the club's highest-ever finish in third.

Frank McAvennie formed a prolific partnership with Tony Cottee, striking 46 goals between them in the top flight.

Former Newcastle and West Ham boss on BBC Radio 5 live

"At West Ham, we would delight the fans by beating Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea at home. But what we never did apart from Tottenham is manage it away.

"West Ham have failed miserably and conceded lots of goals in Slaven’s first two home games against sides they could expect to beat. But away against the big sides they have looked one of the tightest units we’ve seen in the Premier League.

"They made fewer mistakes than Arsenal or Liverpool and that’s why they deservedly won both games. Slaven will be keen to turn it on for the home fans. It’s a big test. The new signings look good. I think they’ll be a good force this season."
