Monaco were swept aside by a superb Spurs side as Lamela got his hattrick in the first-half. After the break they got a consolation goal but they didn't offer much in attack or physically offer a great deal in this tie. The deft finish from Carroll was a fitting end to the evening. There is a real belief and unity among the Spurs team. Even the young academy players know they had to step up to the plate and reach the standards and a lot of them did that tonight.

Pretty much the perfect night for both Tottenham and Liverpool, who drew 0-0 with FC Sion earlier. Both progress as winners of their respective groups and will be seeded for Monday's draw.

Joshua Onomah wants to get in on the goals, but he won't with shots like this one. He gets the ball midway inside the Monaco half, pushes on a few yards before launching an effort high over the bar.

The Spurs fourth goal has killed this as a contest. This is the most exciting squad Tottenham have had for a long time. Teams that are successful and win things have the right blend of experience and youthfulness and Spurs are starting to find that. It is exciting for the Tottenham fans.

Tottenham pass the ball around the on the edge of the area, inviting Monaco to attack them. As they do, Spurs once again turn up the speed dial and get the ball up the pitch quickly, but this time Monaco snuff out the break.

Just as Monaco had been threatening a bit of a fightback, Tottenham score a peach of a goal.

Son Heung-min sets things in motion, picking out Clinton Njie wide right again. His shot is stopped by Danijel Subasic's foot but Tom Carroll wins the ball back, shows good feet to skip past a defender and retains his composure to slot in from a tight angle.

Not a bad way to score your first senior goal for the club.

    Tottenham 3-1 Monaco

Stunningly obvious foul from Monaco's grey-haired skipper Jeremy Toulalan as he shoves Clinton Nijie off the ball. He was never looking at the ball, instead staring at the Tottenham forward all the time as he halted his run. Yellow card.

Another fast, sweeping Tottenham counter attack as Son Heung-min feeds a pass to Ben Davies, who in turn flicks the ball onto Clinton Njie. Once again he just has the keeper to beat and he hits his shot well this time, but good save by Danijel Subasic.

Strong connections between these two sides, with some big names having played for both clubs.

Monaco might want to add Erik Lamela to the above list, just to stop him scoring against them. Four of his five Europa League goals this season have come against the French side.
