    Erik Lamela

Game, set and match. What a night for Erik Lamela, as he completes his hat-trick - his first for Tottenham.

Simple stuff this one, Son Heung-min plays a quick ball to Lamela, on the edge of the area, and he drives the ball in at Danijel Subasic's near post.

Eric Dier has been a virtual ever present for Tottenham this season but he's taken a knock. He's down on the pitch before managing to get up and hobbles to the touchline.

Mauricio Pochettino looks like he is about to make a change, but Dier wants to continue. Made of tough stuff that lad.

Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic takes no chances with a Joshua Onomah shot, turning the ball around the post. Monaco are shaky from the resulting corner, but survive.

Some of these fringe players may get their chance at some stage. You never know with injuries and suspension, it could happen with the busy fixture list and congestion through the Christmas period and into the New Year. Pochettino needs players up to speed."

    Tottenham 2-0 Monaco

This isn't Tottenham's strongest side remember, there are a couple of youngsters in the squad while Monaco have gone with a strong line-up. They look second best, but they might have a chance from set pieces.

That earlier free-kick caught out the Tottenham defence and they have another chance as Joao Moutinho sends a free-kick into the area, but Wallace heads over.

What's Wallace playing at? A chance for Monaco, a real chance, as a free-kick is fired into the area. Tottenham's defence is caught standing still, Wallace is through, but instead of volleying he tries to control the ball, succeeding only in handing possession back to Spurs.

Tottenham have been great to watch this season, their pace on the counter has been particularly impressive. That's on show again as they push forward in numbers, panicking the Monaco defence as Son Heung-min feeds a pass to Tom Carroll, who curls over.

It is not just raining goals at White Hart Lane. It is hammering it down, maybe the slippery pitch played a part in Danijel Subasic shocking bit of goalkeeping?

Tottenham are still doing all the attacking. Monaco want to hit the reset button.

In these playing conditions we say to keep the shots low, the surface is fast and wet and Lamela did just that. I think it was an error from the goalkeeper. Lamela ran straight at the heart of defence, it was a curling shot that was moving away from Subasic but the keeper should have saved it or put it out for a corner.

Son Heung-Min has the ball in the back of the net moments later but, fortunately for Monaco, he's flagged offside. Tottenham are firmly in control.

I told you we were in for goals in this game! Not even 15 minutes in and Tottenham are 2-0 up, Son Heung-Min heads on the ball for Erik Lamela, who breaks towards goal before firing goalwards. Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic should have it covered, but he lets the ball squirm under him.

Monaco have a heck of task on now.

A touch of the Rory Delap about Nabil Dirar's throw in, as he launches one into the area. The ball bounces once and over the head of Stephan El Shaarawy in the middle of the box as he tries desperately to reach it.

Poor from Monaco as Stephan El Shaarawy gets the ball out wide but, in an effort to evade an onrushing Tottenham player, walks the ball out of play.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is then instructed to remove some jewellery and off he trots to a Monaco coach to hand his bit of bling over. Come on son, surely you know the rules?

    Tottenham 1-0 Monaco

Monaco now need to score at least two goals to have a chance of progressing, no easy task against a side that has lost just three games all season.

Spurs players look confident, patiently passing the ball around when in possession as Monaco players chase after them. An element of panic about the French side's play already.

What a start for Tottenham! Two minutes and they have the lead. Tom Carroll finds Ben Davies down the left, he cuts the ball back for Erik Lamela in the middle of the area and he slots home. Monaco players look stunned.
