  1. 'Charismatic Bilic lives on the edge'published at 12:27

    Man City 1-2 West Ham

    MOTD2 Extra

Football writer Amy Lawrence: "Slaven Bilic is the kind of guy that, although he appears to be very laid back, he also loves it on the edge, I think that’s very much part of his make up.

"He’s not just worried about keeping West Ham safe and making it to the Olympic Stadium next season in the Premier League, I think he wants to take them into dreamland, he is very ambitious.

"He’s also very charismatic. If you get the opportunity to talk to him face to face, the way he looks you in the eye, he really gets through to you. I can imagine that, compared to the more conservative style of management they were used to last season, the West Ham players are really buying into it."

  2. 'Bilic has got credit in the bank'published at 12:26

    Man City 1-2 West Ham

    MOTD2 Extra

MOTD commentator Steve Wilson: "Slaven Bilic is really enjoying life at West Ham. Coming to the Premier League is something he’s wanted to do for a long time.

"And West Ham is the right club for him, he has a lot of credit there, even though he played for just a short time. He’s started off with a lot of credit in the bank and now he’s got an awful lot more. It's been a sensational start."

What a game it was. City could not have done much more to win the game but West Ham were a threat themselves. That epitomised the Premier League, two great performances from both sides for different reasons.

We shall see whether the FA does take any retrospective action against Diego Costa.

It all rests on what referee Mike Dean mentions in his match report...

I understand that you have to open the debate but I think the media needs to take more responsibility with its role over this. Depicting cheating as 'antics' and 'playing on the edge' merely legitimises it where there should be a strong and uniform denouncement from the press and a call for the FA to take a stronger stance. Behaviour like that not only ruins good football matches but also brings the game into disrepute and the officials need support from all sides (FA, press, fans) to stamp this sort of thing out. The longer you indulge the idea that Diego Costa's behaviour is in any way acceptable, the more our game will suffer.

Having aggressive players is one thing but the biggest problem yesterday was Mike Dean. It was obvious that he applied a different set of rules to Costa than anyone else. If you raise your hand in modern day football it's a red card offence. If Dean is unwilling or unable through sheer incompetence to apply the laws then he shouldn't be officiating.

  15. ' A marked man'published at 11:43

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Arsenal boss George Graham warns that Diego Costa faces being targeted by officials after his indiscretions.

He told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek: "I think (Costa) is going to be a targeted man now by the officials and probably rightly so.

"(Didier) Drogba was the main (Chelsea) man for nearly 10 years and he was very, very physical but he didn't take it to the extremes that Costa has taken it to.

"Although you've got to keep that physical intensity, once you step over the mark he's got to be dealt with by officials, it's as simple as that - and I think he will be."
