"Alan Pardew's performances as a manager have been top drawer, he made a very difficult job at Newcastle go well.

"He's had a bit of money to spend at Palace but the way they are playing and creating goals is a breath of fresh air."

From Phil: I'd love to see John Gregory back at Villa. He's Villa through and through and no matter how he did he'd still be a legend.

But is there an old manager you'd love to see back at your club? A man who could lead you back to former glories? A man who perhaps was let go erroneously...

Former Arsenal defender on Football Focus

"If I was on a scouting mission, Jonny Evans's performance against Aston Villa was that good I'd want him in my team, he was that good.

"Maybe he lost his way with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United but Tony Pulis is similar to Sir Alex Ferguson, maybe his simplicity of management suits Evans down to the ground."

I love this time of the weekend - as Crystal Palace release their pre-match eagle. A mix of excitement and the slight whiff of danger about that. You wouldn't let Hull do the same with a tiger now would you?

I will keep you up to speed as we build-up to all of today's games - but you can get full match commentary on the goings-on at Selhurst here with Mr. Phil Dawkes.

  5. Injury scare?published at 12:32

Crystal Palace v West Brom (12:45 BST)

West Brom midfielder James Morrison slipped away down the tunnel early as his team-mates complete their warm-up, was he holding his calf? We shall see if Albion have to make a change or not.

It's not often you get a game where both managers are held in high esteem by the home fans - but I'm sure Tony Pulis will get a good reception at Selhurst Park this afternoon.

Palace could go second momentarily with a win this afternoon and it's also a chance for Alan Pardew to eclipse Tony Pulis in the Selhurst Park record books.

This is Pardew's 26th Premier League game with Palace, the same number Pulis oversaw.

So far the Eagles have won more games (14 v 11), scored more goals (36 v 26) and averaged more points (1.72 v 1.46) under Pardew than in Pulis' reign at the club.

Crystal Palace v West Brom (12:45 BST)

It's fair to say that Palace's televised game last weekend was more trick than treat, but The Eagles have gone 20 top-flight games without a draw and should add more value at home.

They have terrific support and an exciting-looking attack on paper. West Brom struggled when Everton went at them on Monday. Are we looking at goals today?

Mike Taylor, BBC WM: "Only one change for WBA, with Gareth McAuley fit to replace Jonas Olsson, who was injured during Monday's defeat by Everton. Record signing Salomon Rondon reportedly hasn't trained since that game due to a calf injury, but is still selected to start."

    Your substitute stories

We've all stood on the sideline and imagined having an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Ronnie Rosenthal-style impact as a super sub. For some, those dreams became more of a super snub...

Matt K: Under 13s, got subbed on second half and scored only goal to then be subbed off 10 minutes later, my dad wasn't best pleased with the manager!

Wobbie Costelloe: A fella I know tells one from youth football in Limerick of his manager saying "Warm up John, I'm taking you off".

Paul, Surrey: We once started a game with nine men and a substitute as two of the team were running late. It doesn't say a lot about the substitute!
