    Man City 6-1 Newcastle

Sergio Aguero's five goals equalled a Premier League record held jointly by Andy Cole, Jermain Defoe, Dimitar Berbatov and Alan Shearer for the most goals scored by one player in a match.

"I am very happy. I am very happy with my goals but for me the three points is more important than the goals," said Ageuro. "Five goals is good and I am happy.

"I hope to continue in the same way. I am happy to score all these goals because it was useful to win. I

"think it was four games without scoring any goals in the Premier League so I am really pleased about my performance."

It's not often you score five goals and get overshadowed but, after Jose Mourinho's meltdown, Sergio Aguero's exploits might not have had the kind of adulation they deserve so let's give the Argentine some love.

Aguero was without a goal in open play in 595 minutes in all competitions but made up for that with five goals in 20 minutes against the Magpies to send City back to the Premier League summit.

Aguero's first goal was his 80th in 128 matches in the Premier League. Only Alan Shearer (102) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (122 games) have reached that mark in fewer games.

In all Mourinho's words, there is no blame of his own abilities and, even though the stats do not make Chelsea's situation look repairable, the Stamford Bridge club's boss is remaining defiant.

"I am more than convinced that we will finish in the top four," said Mourinho after Satuday's 3-1 defeat at home to Southampton. "When the season is so bad if you finish in the top four it is OK."

  14. Mourinho part IIIpublished at 10:32

    Yes, there's more...

“You know I have a big self-esteem and a big ego. I consider myself the best having the worst period and worst results of my career. Doing that as a professional hurts me a lot and doing that at Chelsea hurts me twice," said the Portuguese.

“I want to carry on no doubt and I assume my responsibilities but I think it is time for everybody to assume their responsibilities because when you go down to so many individual mistakes and fear to play, they have their responsibilities.

“They are players who are performing really, really bad individually. I cannot come here and say ‘you and you and you and you’ – it is not my job. But I think it is clear we are being punished by too many individual mistakes. Sadness brings sadness and bad results attracts bad results."

  15. What the papers saypublished at 10:28

    Daily MailImage source, Daily Mail

The Daily Mail has gone in quite strong on a disappointing day for Jose Mourinho, claiming, external he is "on the brink" after the 3-1 defeat by Southampton. The Blues have endured their worst start to a season for 37 years.

  16. Mourinho part deuxpublished at 10:24

    Chelsea 1-3 Southampton

Chelsea were denied a penalty at 1-1 in the defeat by Southampton which Jose Mourinho was unhappy about, although he didn't mention the two spot-kick appeals Southampton had turned down when 1-0 down.

"The referees are afraid to give decisions for Chelsea. At 1-1, it is a huge penalty and once again we don't get it. The penalty is a crucial moment in the game with the result 1-1.

"If the FA wants to punish me they can. They don't punish other managers. My players deserve it, Chelsea fans deserve it. I am a Chelsea fan too.

"The penalty was a giant penalty and he (the referee) was afraid to give like everyone else is afraid to give. After that the team lost even more confidence. The team mentally tried but they collapsed. They are in such a low moment that they collapsed."

  17. Mourinho Part 1published at 10:19

    Chelsea 1-3 Southampton

There's so much to take in from Jose Mourinho that we are going to have to take the Hollywood approach and give you the best of it in a box set stylie. Here's part un:

"I want to make it clear, one: I don’t run away. Two: if the club wants to sack me they have to sack me because I am not running away from my responsibilities or my team.

    Jose MourinhoImage source, PA

“To be champions now is very difficult because the distance is considerable but I am more than convinced that we will finish in the top four and when the season is so bad if you finish in the top four it is ok.

"Third – and I think this is even more important than the first and the second - it is a crucial moment in the history of this club. You know why? Because if they sack me they sack the best manager this club had. The message is again that bad results and the manager is guilty."

  18. Mourinho meltdownpublished at 10:14

    Chelsea 1-3 Southampton

There's only one place to start and that is with Jose Mourinho.

The Chelsea boss saw his side lose their fourth league game of the season with a 3-1 home defeat by Southampton. His side - the reigning top flight champions - are now 16th (sixteenth, S-I-X-T-E-E-N-T-H).

Afterwards, he gave the sort of post-match interview which can only be described as box office. Asked one question, the Portuguese went off on a seven minute outburst before taking his leave.
