  1. 'I can't wait for the second half to start'published at 13:41 British Summer Time 17 October 2015

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Danny Murphy
Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live at White Hart Lane

"A thoroughly enjoyable first half - there wasn't a moment to breathe. There was commitment and tenacity, and both managers will be reasonably happy because both sides enjoyed good spells.

"I can't wait for the second half to start."

  2. Meanwhile, in the cricket...published at 13:41

Right then... there's a game of cricket breaking out in the UAE. Pakistan have collapsed to 173 all out, leaving England 99 to win from around 19 overs which are left in the day. Join the conclusion of that here.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"Good first half. Jurgen Klopp will be pleased at how Liverpool have clearly tried to implement his 'gegenpressing' (high pressing basically) style but might be a little less satisfied at a lack of high quality. He has also been unimpressed with how Liverpool have been setting up to defend corners - a few of the coaching staff left over from the Brendan Rodgers era have been getting it in the ear over that."

Bright Eugene: Spurs seem to have finally got control of the game.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:33

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

It's half-time at the Lane, where Liverpool and Tottenham head into the tunnel on level terms. Chris Bevan is doing a dedicated live text here.

  6. Sutton backing Sherwoodpublished at 13:27

Chelsea v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

Chris Sutton was Tim Sherwood's team-mate at Blackburn Rovers, and the Match of the Day pundit has been telling Chris Bevan why Aston Villa should stick by their young manager.

"For Tim to be Blackburn skipper ahead of, say, Alan Shearer shows you what the boss Kenny Dalglish thought of him too.

"He always had the leadership qualities you need as a manager and, on top of that, I always thought he was extremely knowledgeable about the game.

"He comes across as confident or even cocky in some respects, but in the dressing room it doesn't matter whether you are an introvert or an extrovert as long as what you are saying makes sense. Tim always did.

"So it does not surprise me that, as a manager, he has got the best out of players who had been under-performing - like Emmanuel Adebayor at Spurs or Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph at Villa last season - because he has always had the ability to get people playing for him."

  7. Sherwood also under the microscopepublished at 13:24

Chelsea v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

Tim Sherwood is under pressure to start picking up results, too. The Villans start the day in the bottom three and haven't won since they beat Bournemouth on the opening day of the season.

Sherwood, who was appointed in February, has however dismissed suggestions he has been given two games to save his job.

"I have no understanding of this, no one has spoken to me about two games," said the ex-Spurs boss. "I am realistic enough to know that I'm a football manager who needs to win football matches and we haven't done that

"So if you don't win games as a manager, you get sacked, that's what happens.

"I'm not hiding in the background. I'm standing up there in that rectangle at the front of the pitch, taking the brunt of it, that's what I get paid for."

  8. Big day for Josepublished at 13:21

Chelsea v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

Aston Villa are the visitors to Stamford Bridge today, with Chelsea starting the day two places above the relegation zone and 10 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Mid-table is an improvement on their current predicament - but would it be enough for Jose Mourinho's bosses?

Asked if he would still be in charge if the Blues finish mid-table, the Portuguese said: "Yes. I was not told that because we don't expect to finish mid-table."

    More on that here.

  9. Championship latestpublished at 13:16

We're approaching half-time in the Championship, where Sheffield Wednesday are leading 1-0 against visitors Hull City. Fernando Forestieri has put the Owls in front. Want to follow that game kick by kick? You can, over here.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Danny Murphy
Ex-Liverpool & Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live at White Hart Lane

"Liverpool's narrowness means Tottenham's get-out when under pressure is at full-back. The home side haven't managed to get the ball there yet but they should work it out sooner rather than later. Spurs are easing into the game now."

  14. Remembering Howard Kendallpublished at 13:09

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"One of the greatest memories is of Howard Kendall's almost blind love for Everton. It brought him back to the club three times as manager with diminishing returns - but he simply could not say no.

"I recall speaking to him when then Everton manager Joe Royle was trying to sign Andrei Kanchelskis from Manchester United. I told him Kanchelskis had a choice between Everton and Middlesbrough and was thinking it over. The line fell silent before he said: 'Sorry. What did you say? He's thinking it over? Seriously?'

"Kendall, one of the game's gentlemen, meant not the slightest disrespect to Middlesbrough - he genuinely found it hard to believe anyone needed to think over a move to Everton."

  16. Remembering Howard Kendallpublished at 13:07

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"One of Howard Kendall's greatest, and perhaps under-rated, qualities was his willingness to gamble in the transfer market and how it played a part in his success.

"He gambled on Peter Reid at £60,000 from Bolton Wanderers and Andy Gray at £250,000 from Wolves when both were regarded as washed up and injury-prone in some quarters - and they were central figures as Everton first won that FA Cup in 1984 then followed it up with the title and European Cup Winners' Cup.

"Kendall did it again after losing the double to Liverpool in 1986. In preparation for the next season he stunned most observers by paying £65,000 for Manchester City veteran Paul Power. Power went on to win a title medal, performing brilliantly at left-back and in midfield."

"Howard Kendall survived tough times before the success came - and one of the great memories was the look of pride on his face as he looked up to Wembley's Royal Box as captain Kevin Ratcliffe held the FA Cup aloft in 1984, his first trophy as a manager and Everton's first success for 14 years."
