"If we did not already know, it is clear early on that Jurgen Klopp kicks every ball from his technical area. Tackles are applauded, corners met with a clenched fist - and he has a whistle that puts him up there with the great Premier League managerial whistlers of the past such as Andre Villas-Boas and his Anfield predecessor Brendan Rodgers."

"This is a good start from Liverpool, they're passing confidently, it'll be very pleasing for Jurgen Klopp. They've been the better side so far.

"It's been a good confident start from Adam Lallana especially. He's getting plenty of the ball and has seemingly been given the flexibility to swap sides of the pitch."

  3. Remembering Howard Kendallpublished at 12:53

Everton legend Graeme Sharp has been speaking to the club's official website: "I saw Howard at the last game against Liverpool and he was in good fettle as always. It's devsastating news this monring.

"Howard was a fun guy, a character, and a very good manager. His record speaks for itself. The most successful time in Everton's history was when Howard was at the helm.

"He believed in team spirit and all the players worked hard for him. It's going to be a hard afternoon. He'll forever be in the thoughts of all Evertonians."

  4. Remembering Howard Kendallpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 17 October 2015

Your tributes to Howard Kendall continue to flood in.

Rob Drake: I was 13 when I went by train to my first ever Everton game on my own at Derby. Howard scored from 20 yards. Part of a wonderful midfield and team, then a great manager. And finally confident enough to go to Spain to manage. What a sad day.

Steve B, Liverpool fan: If my memory serves me right Everton would have more than likely gone on to more European Cup glory if it wasn't for the ban on English clubs in Europe. Great manager, great team. Very sad day. RIP Howard Kendall.

Spud: Howard Kendall is in every good memory I have as an Everton fan as player, manager and bloke. Captain 1970, manager 1985, and watching companion 1995. He will be missed by every football person in the UK.

"No big entrance from new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp - although he was greeted by a huge number of photographers. He gave the travelling fans a long lingering look and returned to his seat. Was out of it inside a minute, though, and is now standing in his technical area."

"Can Liverpool get enough of the ball high up the pitch to cause Liverpool problems? I'm not so sure, looking at the Spurs line-up. There is so much energy, legs, and enthusiasm in Mauricio Pochettino's side.

    "Can Liverpool match that?"

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"Howard Kendall's first spell as Everton manager ended with him as the most successful manager in the club's history - but he survived turbulent times before getting there.

"Attendances were down to 13,000 and leaflets were distributed at Goodison Park calling for his dismissal.

"The tide turned quickly when Oxford United's Kevin Brock sent a backpass straight to Adrian Heath to enable Everton to escape with a draw in a League Cup quarter-final at the old Manor Ground - and Everton went on to reach Wembley.

"One of the greatest examples of his sure touch came before a third round FA Cup tie at Stoke City in 1984. As he went to start his team talk, Kendall heard thousands of Everton's fans chanting outside. He opened the dressing room window and simply said: "You can't let those people down can you?"

"Everton, struggling at the time, won 2-0 and ultimately won the FA Cup against Watford at Wembley, Kendall's first trophy and the club's first in 14 years."

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

"It's the first time an appointment of a manager in the Premier League has been praised universally, but it's a tough start for Jurgen Klopp today.

"He's down to bare bones, with kids who've never played in the Premier League on the bench. Joe Gomez and Danny Ings have already suffered bad injures, and Daniel Sturridge is out today too. The revolution, if you want to call it that, is going to take a while to start happening."

  14. Excitement, pressure, opportunitypublished at 12:39

    Tottenham v Liverpool (12:45 BST)

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "I feel excitement, I feel the pressure, I feel the opportunity.I feel it’s a bit colder here than in Liverpool, but everything is prepared and of course we are waiting for the first whistle."

On his first week in charge: "It was a little bit of a strange situation; normally you won’t change a manager with 12 points. But yeah, there is enough confidence, it is not a very easy situation, but when we are together we only work. We only had three exercises together, but for the moment it’s enough. We want to be active, to show we are ready to change a little bit. We still have to work a little longer together but we have to take the shape we are in today, it’s not a problem."

On Daniel Sturridge’s injury: "It was only a little contact with Jordon Ibe in training and there is a little bit of swelling so we don’t want to risk it. There is no problem, we have a striker, and we can change it."

  15. Howard Kendall diespublished at 12:35

Howard Kendall was interviewed by Everton fans' site, bluekipper.com, in 2013. He was asked about his favourite Everton game and goal...

"I think the first one which was in a ' Derby'  game in the Gwladys Street," said Kendall. "It was a bit of a trickle into the far post, Jimmy Husband crossed it and we went on to win 1-0.

"I think that's when you are really accepted at a club when you scored in a ' Derby' game."

  18. 'Liverpool's problems are at the back'published at 12:27 British Summer Time 17 October 2015

    Tottenham v Liverpool (12:45 BST)

    Danny Murphy
Ex-Liverpool midfielder at White Hart Lane for 5 live Sport

"Liverpool's creative players could thrive under Klopp. His Dortmund side were attacking, had flair and scored goals.

"What is fascinating for me is what formation he will use - he could leave the team as it has been, playing three at the back with two wide midfielders.

"This Liverpool squad is full of flair, but the problems are at the back. The keeper is not good enough and the defenders are too erratic. It's a crucial area he will need to address, not the Reds' quality in the final third."

  19. Klopp's toilet tacticspublished at 12:26

    Tottenham v Liverpool (12:45 BST)

And did you know that Jurgen Klopp likes to talk tactics on the toilet? Michael Thurk,a former team-mate who then played under Klopp, told BBC World Service: "In the shower room or in the toilet directly after the game he had a lighter with him, smoked on the toilet and told us about the game and yeah it was special."
