Somehow Emre Can escapes a yellow card for a senseless tackle on Willian near the corner flag. What was he thinking there. He slid in for no reason whatsoever. In comes the free-kick, cleared.

Remember when Cesc Fabregas was good?

You don't have to go back too far, 12 months maybe. The Spaniard crisply passed his way to nine assists in his opening 10 games last season.

This season, how many do you think he has in the same number of games?

    One.

He has of course been left out today. John Obi Mikel and Ramires are deputising well enough. Ramires has only had four touches but all of his passes have found their target. Mikel has played 11 passes - 82% complete. Not bad.

  3. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

Roberto Firmino looks composed for Liverpool, flicking a ball wide and through James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne an attack is built, in comes Milner's cross... LALLANA.. saved.

A second half chance for the attacking midfielder, this time it's a volley from 18 yards and Asmir Begovic grasps it. A yard either side of him and he may have had issues.

Liverpool are certainly committing men forward, as you can see from the average positions in the game so far. In the last five minutes, Liverpool have had over 80% of possession.

Liverpool are playing incredibly well. They've had Chelsea chasing shadows the last five minutes. If you stick Sturridge up front, I reckon they'd have created three or four good chances."

Cesar Azpilicueta is seeing most of the ball for the home side - with 22 touches so far. Lucas has 33 for Liverpool who are beginning to play more of the football.

Roberto Firminio tries to get in behind but John Terry slides like a seal on ice to concede a corner.

What will Jose make of all that?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has just gone into a full-on slapping his own head rage and jumping up and down rage with James Milner - not sure why but whatever the message was, Milner got it.

John Terry has started the game incredibly well. But if Chelsea have a weakness, it's John Obi Mikel he's not getting close to Milner or Firmino. Liverpool have not lost confidence."

    Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool are slowly growing into this and force a corner but Philippe Coutinho whips it into the hands of Asmir Begovic.

The keeper releases Chelsea on the break but the visitors get back in to break things up.

It's a little end-to-end and Lucas has a dig... blocked... ADAM LALLANA... well held by Begovic.

Nathaniel Clyne reaches the edge of the Chelsea area and flashes a shot well wide. That was a bit of a hack job after finding some space thanks to a neat one-two.

A look back at the Ramires goal shows us how the home side were patient in the Liverpool corner before releasing Cesar Azpilicueta - number 28. The way Ramires arrived was reminiscent of a certain Frank Lampard - who is at the Bridge today.

Liverpool have to play with confidence, to feet. If you've got three number 10s on the ball, make sure you keep the ball on the deck."

Nathaniel Clyne gets down the right flank and is positive, running at Cesar Azpilicueta before whipping in a cross which Asmir Begovic takes at his near post.

It's a little better by the visitors who ping the ball around in midfield confidently.

This is a good start by the home side. Mamadou Sakho has to head away a well-delivered dead ball and Liverpool need to be careful here or this could be done and dusted inside half an hour.

Willian presses Nathaniel Clyne well - sending a positive message to the players lined up behind him.

The Liverpool game plan - with such a lack of strike options - was surely to soak up and be ultra patient here. It's been torn up.

It's great play from Chelsea down the left, but Azpilicueta is given far too much time to get it onto his right side. Ramires is so good breaking from deep. That will give Chelsea a burst of confidence."

    Ramires

Number seven - BINGO for Chelsea. Ramires arrives right on cue to bullet a header into the bottom corner.

It's good football down the Liverpool left, the champions are patient and pick the lock eventually. It allows Cesar Azpilicueta to reach the dead-ball line and he arrows a cross onto the head of Ramires.

And so here we go. Half of Stamford Bridge under sunlight, Liverpool will attack their own fans in the second half. The Reds get us moving and knock it about at the back. Ramires takes a whack from Brazilian compatriot Lucas, free-kick.
