"You could see what he was trying to do - smash it hard and low across the box. But he got it all wrong, Rhys Oates."

    Salford City 1-1 Hartlepool

That might be the first bit of composed play since half time as Hartlepool midfielder Nicky Featherstone steps forwards and beats two men, commits a third and then feeds Rhys Oates on the overlap. Quality?! Nope. Oates leans back and skies the cross out of the ground. A shocker.

Some more meaty challenges flying in now! Good grief. Definitely more blows landed tonight than in Fury v Klitschko. Referee Gavin Ward not interested.

  4. CLOSE!published at 47 mins

    Salford City 1-1 Hartlepool

Everything about this is horrible. A Hartlepool corner is headed back by Carl Magnay, three or four Salford defenders have a go at clearing their lines, they can't force it away and Adam Jackson shanks a terrible shot wide of the mark. It barely reaches the goal-line!

"I thought we did really well in the first half. We had a bit of a nervous start but apart from that we looked a real threat, especially from set pieces.

"We don't want a replay - the league is the most important thing for us. We want to get this done tonight and I think we've got a chance with the wind behind us in this second half."

    Salford City 1-1 Hartlepool

Salford scored inside 30 seconds of the restart against Notts County and they start really brightly again, into the box early, great turn from James Poole and his low shot is well blocked. Almost an instant impact.

Jack: Salford are the Man City of non- league. Bought by millionaires, now doing well. Ironic really.

An away trip to Ipswich is just what Boro fans wanted on a Friday night, and to make things even better it's goalless into the second half.

A win would send Boro top. Follow that game here.

    Salford City 1-1 Hartlepool

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on BBC Two

"I don't think Hartlepool have bottled out of it or anything, I just think Salford have got better quality. They've got more experience too - I think the average age of their team is 29, while Hartlepool's is 23.

"It has looked like men against boys at times."

Will Ronnie Moore make any half-time changes? His side were very much second best in that first half. If the sides do need a replay it will be played on either Tuesday 15 or Wednesday 16 December.

  13. 'Salford odds on to win'published at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2015

    Salford City 1-1 Hartlepool

    Danny Murphy
    Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Two

"The Hartlepool players were arguing with each other as they left the field for half-time and that's because they have been second best. It's not like they're not battling but they haven't really got into the final third.

"At the moment Salford look odds on to go through. The key for them is: Can they maintain that intensity into the second half?"

    Go at them!

Salford have been ultra positive so far - only two of their players registered average positions in their own half during that first 45 minutes (below left). In contrast, nine of Hartlepool's players' average positions (below right) were in their defensive half.

    Contrast.

    Salford City 1-1 Hartlepool

    Danny Murphy
    Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Two

"Salford have been at it in so many more ways for me. They conceded a sloppy penalty but the reaction was really impressive.

"It would have been easy to disappear but they remained calm and got themselves back into the game."

Nathan, Belfast: If Salford win the cup and then win the Europa League, and Valencia win the champions league and they both play in the super cup what boxes do the Nevilles sit in ?

I think they'll cross that bridge when they come to it Nath...

There's the break. Hartlepool took the lead with their first route out of their half but it's been all Salford since.
