Hartlepool's collective passing accuracy so far is 52.3%. To put that into context, the average labrador can find a fellow retriever with a tennis ball about 60% of the time.

The pitch doesn't help, to be fair. 

Great delivery! Hartlepool are gifted a corner when Steven Howson fluffs a back-header to his keeper and it is nearly so costly, great ball whipped in and it is flicked onto the top of his own net by a City defender.

Put it in behind, Salford clip it through again and James Poole sniffs a chance. He nearly gets in behind but Adam Jackson does just enough to lever him off the ball. Foul? Not for me. And given some of the challenges which have gone unpunished, definitely not for referee Gavin Ward!

Matthew Bates, once of Midllesbrough, shows his pedigree with a lovely Cruyff-esque turn from centre half as he plays Hartlepool out of danger. But the League Two side can't keep hold of it and again they are on the back foot. Paul Scholes' pre-match claim that there is nothing between these levels is holding up so far. Hartlepool have scored from their one attack, other than that it's been Salford all the way. 

Mark. Glastonbury: That is why non-league teams always have a chance in this cup. That goal was just pure desire. Plain and simple. A very underrated word in football. Well done Salford.

Very nearly a second! Salford clip the ball over the top, a stiff breeze holds it up and allows Danny Webber to get there. He crosses to the front post and that man Gary Stopforth arrives, his header deflected just wide.

Nicky Butt thought that was in. You're on crutches man! Calm it.

They might be behind but Salford are certainly pressing. As the two teams' heat maps show (Salford below left, Hartlepool below right), they have had far more of the ball in attacking positions than their opponents.
